Job Description - Bilingual Community Advocate

KidZone Museum



Job Title: Bilingual Community Advocate & Events Coordinator
Department: Programs
Reports To: Museum Manager
Job Status: Part-Time Regular (20–30 hours/week)
Schedule: Fridays and Saturdays required; occasional evenings and additional days as needed

Position Summary




The Bilingual Community Advocate & Events Coordinator serves as a key ambassador of the KidZone Museum, helping to expand access to our programs and deepen community relationships, especially with underserved families in the North Tahoe/Truckee region. This dynamic role combines community outreach, bilingual engagement, and event coordination both on- and off-site.


This position requires strong communication and planning skills, comfort with public engagement, and the ability to support both day-to-day operations and larger events. The advocate may also serve as Manager on Duty during some shifts and will participate in general upkeep of the museum space.




Primary Responsibilities




Community Outreach & Engagement (KidsReach & General)





  • Represent the museum at local neighborhoods, schools, and partner organizations to connect with underserved families.

  • Build and maintain trusting relationships with families, guardians, and key community partners.

  • Plan and implement family-focused programs and outreach events (both on-site and off-site).

  • Share information about museum offerings and follow up to encourage participation.

  • Gather impact stories, photos, and testimonials to support grant and communication efforts.

  • Collect and track outreach data using designated tools and software.

  • Attend community meetings and networking events to build visibility and partnerships.

  • Help maintain a current outreach database and contribute to monthly/quarterly reports.

  • Assist the marketing team by relaying outreach stories, photos, and updates.




Event Coordination





  • Plan, organize, and support logistics for museum-led events, such as Día del Niño, Family Farm Fest, and other seasonal or mission-aligned programs.

  • Coordinate event materials (e.g., tables, signage, games, inflatables, supplies).

  • Collaborate with volunteers, staff, and community partners to ensure smooth event execution.

  • Assist with day-of event set-up, management, and clean-up.

  • Ensure events are welcoming, inclusive, and engaging for diverse families.




Administrative & Operational Support





  • Maintain accurate records of participation and engagement using systems like Parsimony, SurveyMonkey, and Salesforce.

  • Support general museum functions, including light cleaning, resetting exhibits, and snow removal when needed.

  • Serve as Manager on Duty as scheduled, overseeing visitor experience, staff coordination, and safety protocols.

  • Outgoing, friendly, and passionate about community connection and inclusion.

  • Organized, self-motivated, and dependable in managing events and outreach initiatives.

  • Excellent communication skills across in-person, phone, email, and written formats.

  • Demonstrates cultural awareness and sensitivity when working with diverse populations.

  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, community-centered environment.




Minimum Qualifications





  • Bilingual: Fluent in both Spanish and English (spoken and written).

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regularly to Kings Beach, Tahoe City, and nearby areas.

  • At least two years of experience in community engagement, events, education, or nonprofit settings.

  • Experience in event planning.

  • Tech-savvy and open to learning new platforms; experience with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and SurveyMonkey a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, social work, education, or related field preferred but not required.




Additional Requirements





  • Availability on weekend is essential.

  • Willingness to support light cleaning and facilities tasks as needed.

  • Comfortable taking on Manager on Duty responsibilities, including visitor safety and team support.
