Bilingual Direct Care Worker

Exempt Status: Non-Exempt 

Pay Rate: $26.00/hour 

Position Status: Full Time

• Be a first point of contact for our guests when they enter the shelter. This will include working 5 days on the shelter floor meeting the needs of our guests. 
• Be engaged, energetic, compassionate and promote a safe and welcoming community. 
• Establish supportive/trusting relationships with guests.
• Respond to guests’ emergency needs for help with trauma, clothing, food and other necessities.
• Coordinate showers, laundry, and access to other services.
• Provide immediate crisis de-escalation intervention.
• Assist with triaging the needs of guests and serve as a liaison to advocacy, medical and other services. 
• Assist with toiletry closet, inventory.
• Implement shelter policies and procedures through guest education.
• Participate in meetings, professional development training and orientation of new staff and volunteers. 
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Shelter Manager including working in the Empowerment Center, outreach, or other tasks as needed

• Accurate and timely reporting of all significant guest information including daily log, incident reporting and all data gathering requirements.
• Accurate recording of all in-kind donations.
• Accurate and timely reporting of financial data including check requests, gift card requests, and credit card purchases
• Computer literacy Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred. 
• Perform other assignments as assigned by the Shelter Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully you must be passionate about our mission of helping vulnerable women in need and be able to perform each essential duty/function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma required. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred, or commensurate experience with vulnerable individuals struggling with homelessness, poverty, addiction, mental illness, trauma and abuse.
• Ability to abide by WLP Professional Ethics & Boundaries policy.
• Ability to learn and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to set limits in a clear and respectful manner.
• Ability to multi-task and remain calm in a crisis or stressful situations and respond appropriately.
• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work positively and cooperatively with staff and volunteers throughout the agency.

Language Skills:

• Bilingual in Cantonese, Spanish, Haitian Creole or Portuguese preferred.

Other Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to work with diverse populations that may include mental illness, addiction or homelessness. 
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Physical and Environmental Requirements:

To be qualified for this position, an individual must meet the following standards and/or be able to perform the following essential functions and activities.

Physical activities include:

Be able without difficulty to stand and or walk for 7 hours of an 8-hour shift. Bending, stretching and lifting 30 pounds. Take wet laundry from washing machine to dryer (over shoulder height). Fold bed linens and towels, bend to make 11 beds, set up and take down large dining tables. Clean and maintain a multi-stall bathroom, replenish supplies, clean and remove trash.  Assist with keeping dining room clean and safe during operating hours.

Sensory and Communicative activities include Seeing, hearing, feeling and speaking.

An individual in this position will be exposed to the following environmental conditions: high level of noise, arguments, demands and commotion in community dining room.
