Job Description - Bilingual Home Visitor - Early Start

The Bilingual Early Start Home Visitor meets with expectant parents and families with young children in McLean County, providing strength-based, family-centered services, comprehensive assessment, parent support groups and education. As a Home Visitor, you will develop safe and trusting relationships with expectant and new parents, helping them to expand their support networks, maximize access to needed services, and providing support and expertise as they successfully navigate the parenting journey.


Candidate qualifications:



  • Associate’s degree in social work, psychology, early childhood, child development or other closely related field preferred (Some programs may require a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, early childhood, child development or other closely related field to meet requirements of contract, regulatory, accreditation or other standards.)

  • Must be certified in appropriate program model or obtain certification within 90 days of hire and must maintain certification throughout employment.

  • Minimum of one year of experience working with families with children 0-5 years of age required.

  • Experience in working with culturally diverse communities and families preferred.

  • Ability to speak English and Spanish required.

  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle required. 


Core Responsibilities:



  • Adheres to and supports the implementation of all applicable contract, funder, regulatory and accreditation standards, program philosophy, and the policies and procedures of Brightpoint.

  • Implements assigned Home Visiting model with fidelity.

  • Completes assessments with families to determine child/family needs, according to specified timelines.

  • Establishes trusting and nurturing relationships with clients/participants.

  • Provides observations of parent-child interactions, careful listening, and empathic responses and engages clients/participants in reflection on the developing parent-child relationship.

  • Assists clients/participants to expand their support systems by providing community networking/ advocacy for and with family members; provides information and assistance in locating and accessing community resources that support family well-being and ensures successful linkages to needed services, such as early intervention, mental health, social service supports, health care, etc.

  • Maintains positive working relationships with collateral partners, referring agencies and other community resources.

  • Assists families in establishing goals and creating a plan for accomplishment of those goals including resource identification.

  • Administers developmental screenings for children and in partnership with families. Shares screening results with families and, when appropriate, supports linkages and referrals based on results.

  • Supports families who may have witnessed or experienced trauma, domestic violence, mental health issues, homelessness and/or substance abuse. When needed, develops safety plans for family well-being.

  • Plans and facilitates groups that may include parent education topics, expanding social support systems and socialization/interaction of children and families.

  • May plan and facilitate other group interactions, such as community resource events and family fun events or during field trips as determined by program model.

  • Follows up on client referrals received and conducts an intake for each qualifying referral which may occur in a home, childcare center, shelter or through Coordinated Intake.

  • Markets the program services through presentations, networking, monthly newsletters, and referrals.

  • Completes required documentation, paperwork and data entry accurately and within designated timelines.

  • Participates in family and clinical staffing’s with team to coordinate services.

  • Works within the core services of Infant Mental Health Practice as appropriate to program model.

  • May serve on local/state committees related to program needs.

  • Compensation: Hourly Range $20-$21 per hour; offers are commensurate with experience and bilingual candidates may receive additional compensation. The salary range provided represents our current estimate for this role at the time of posting and is subject to change. The final salary will be determined based on a range of factors, including but not limited to, a candidate's relevant experience, education, qualifications, skills, certifications, and alignment with organizational needs.   • Benefits: Medical/dental/vision insurance, 3+ weeks paid time off in the first year including the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day (PTO increases with tenure); 11 paid holidays, supplemental insurance options, 401(k) with match (more benefits details here). 

  • Location: Hybrid (1-2 days WFH). This is not a fully remote position, but there are opportunities to work from home. Must be available to provide home and community-based services, in-person, to program participants in McLean County of Central Illinois, and work from the home office in Bloomington, IL at least 3 times per week for in-person engagements with the team and supervisor. Case notes and other administrative tasks can be completed from home if desired. 

  • Schedule: Full-time, hourly. Monday - Friday, general business hours with some flexibility to provide evening availability as needed to accommodate client schedules.
