Bilingual Preschool Program Coordinator - Internal Applicants Only


 


We are seeking qualified applicants who are seeking long-term employment as our Bilingual Program Coordinator for our new Montessori preschool program located in Portland Oregon.  Our Mission – Equity, Access and Choice. We increase access to high-quality , early childhood education for children and families impacted by economic and racial inequities by providing tuition-free Montessori for preschool-age children.  Most of our children enter as English language learners. 


 


The Coordinator will have strong administrative, problem solving, and parent engagement skills.  They will be compassionate, thoughtful, patient, and highly organized and excited by a position that blends school admin, family engagement, and significant time with students.  The Coordinator will be the on-site administrator within a shared office/classroom space located within a public elementary building- collaborating closely with the AEMEi School Manager and others. Able to perform position duties independently with minimal supervision, and within a team environment.



This position requires a self-starter with solid professional judgment, de-escalation skills and is calm in a crisis as they will act as the Site Administrator.  They will be skilled at prioritizing and planning work functions, and a positive and strong communicator to act as a HUB within our programs.  This position requires Oregon Fingerprint and Criminal Check clearance, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate attained promptly prior to working at the site.

Calm and kind, gets along well with others and thrives in a kid centered environment and can build positive trusting relationships with parents with diverse backgrounds/home languages.  They will use their Spanish and English communication skills daily to support our students, families, and mission. 


 


This position will be responsible for performing a variety of administrative, classroom support & parent engagement/outreach specific tasks. This will include community outreach, student enrollment and attendance tracking, vaccination record collection, support for our transportation & nutritional program, collaboration with MECP and other organizational partners, system and file organization and upkeep, data gathering/entry and running and evaluating reports. The Coordinator will have significant regular contact with our preschool children.  They should should expect to dedicate 1-2 hours of every work day with children to support arrivals, departures and coverage during staff breaks and days of staff shortages.



This position requires a self-starter, who is a quick learner with solid professional judgment, solid de-escalation skills, experienced w/young children, and calm in a crisis and will be the backup Site Administrator.  


 


This position is full-time M-F and will flex their schedule for occasional evening and weekend hours related to parent/school events and professional development training. This position will require ongoing training on early childhood education.


 


AEME is a non-profit which is expanding to open new tuition free Montessori early childhood education programs to neighborhoods within the Portland Metro community.

Qualifications:




  • Experience Required: 2+ years relevant professional experience -administration & parent engagement.

  •  Relevant professional, volunteer and/or personal experience with preschool age children 


  • Bilingual Spanish and English: verbal and written.



Strong Preference for Candidates with the Following Qualifications/Experience:




  • Associates or University undergraduate degree. ORO Step 8 or higher

  • Experienced as a Montessori Lead Guide or Classroom Assistant


 


Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:



  • Calm and centered demeanor which demonstrates confidence, kindness, flexibility and ability to support kids and peers.

  • Highly organized and efficient. Able to focus and complete tasks within a noisy and disruptive shared space.


  • Creative problem solver with high level of personal initiative and solid professional judgement.


  • Skilled with keyboarding, computers, software, system portals, and administrative systems. PDF, Word, Google, spreadsheets, Excel, data systems and able to quickly learn agency specific tools (Transparent classroom, Mailchimp, Remind)


  • Strong administrative skills. Creates & updates written materials (school calendars/handbooks, etc.).


  • Personal dedication to DEI values and will engage and sustain at high level to integrate values into work.


  • Can perform their role well and remain positively focused within an environment where process to consider benefits, concerns, options and impact is a value over rapid decision making.


  • Reliable, Consistent & Dependable, and can be flexible with work schedule/job duties to support the school.


  • Significant physical abilities include mobility in the classroom, lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision.



Additional Requirements:




  • Compliance with Oregon’s Office of Childcare criminal history registration.


  • Attain and maintain working knowledge of rules for the Certification of Childcare Centers in Oregon, and AEME preschool grant program requirements.


  • Gain understanding of Montessori philosophy and methods, to promote and integrate into role.


  • Stay in compliance with Oregon training requirements for Childcare Center staff. Includes but is not limited to  CPR/1st Aid, Food Handlers, Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention.



Compensation and Benefits: This is a full-time year-round exempt salaried professional position. The starting hourly wage for this position is $57,200 with defined wage add-on’s (Example: College Degree, ORO Step Level, Montessori Expertise, Years of Relevant Work Experience).
