Overview A large, established Importer, Shipper and Distributor of fresh produce is seeking an experienced, hands-on Operations Leader to run inbound and outbound logistics for their distribution facility in South New Jersey. This role reports directly to the CEO and ensures accurate, efficient, and safe movement of perishable goods in a fast-paced, temperature-sensitive environment.
The Shipping & Receiving Manager is accountable for the daily execution of warehouse operations – keeping freight moving on schedule, building and leading a high-performing team, and hitting accuracy and on-time targets shift after shift. This is a floor-focused leadership role: the Manager owns the people, the process, and the daily numbers, and works alongside Production, QC, Sales, Compliance, and Maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
Direct all daily receiving, put-away, storage, order picking, and outbound shipping activities.
Hire, train, schedule and manage the shipping and receiving team, including leads and shift supervisors.
Own performance management: goal setting, reviews, coaching, corrective action, and termination decisions in partnership with HR.
Own the accuracy and quality of inbound shipments against purchase orders and outbound shipments against sales orders.
Set dock schedules, labor plans, and shift priorities to meet daily volume and on-time shipping commitments.
Serve as the final decision-maker on the floor for short shipments, damaged product, carrier delays, and dock scheduling conflicts.
Track and report dept. KPIs – order accuracy, on-time shipping, dock-to-stock time, labor cost per unit, and inventory variance.
Set the tone for a positive, accountable, safety-first team culture on the floor.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years in shipping/receiving, warehouse, or distribution operations, including 2+ years directly managing a team in the perishable food industry.
Strong communication, organization and problem-solving skills. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish” is required.
Ability to work in refrigerated/cold environments; willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends based on shipping volume, and to be available for escalations outside scheduled hours.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and execution-focused.
Comfortable working in fast-paced, perishable goods environment.
This position will be on-site full-time in New Jersey, Monday thru Friday with some occasional Saturdays as needed.
The base salary the company may reasonably expect to pay for this role is $60,000 to $80,000. The actual salary for this role will be determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s skills and experience. The base salary range does not include other compensation elements, which will compose the total compensation package, or other benefits available to the position.
