Bilingual Survivor Specialist

The Bilingual Survivor Specialist reports to the Victim Services Coordinator and the Homeless Services Director, and provides follow-up and supportive services to victims and survivors in the community. This includes survivors transitioning out of Safe Passages Emergency Shelter and referrals from community partners.

Remote staff must reside in either the District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia.

• Candidates must be able to participate in and complete mandatory orientation and training during the first 6 weeks of employment.

Available shift(s)

Tuesday to Saturday or any 4 days plus Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred, 2-3 years experience with housing and homeless service populations and services.


• Must listen and communicate well, be non-judgmental, have self-initiative and work well as a team member.


• Must speak, read and write Spanish and English proficiently


• Successful completion of Initial Crisis Intervention Training
  


• Completes ASIST Training


• Completes Homeless and Domestic Violence Training


• Must listen and communicate well, be non-judgmental, have self-initiative and work well as a team member.


• Successful use of Language Line and TTD services.
  


• Must have a computer/laptop, high-speed internet and a quiet workspace (For Remote Work - DC, MD, VA residents only) 
  

*Bilingual Survivor Specialists will have demonstrated written and speaking proficiency in English and Universal Spanish to facilitate clear and accurate information exchanges with callers. Bilingual Specialists will undergo an oral proficiency interview in the tested language and designed to identify the candidate’s level of linguistic proficiency to ensure bilingual Specialists are articulate (understandable) in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

Case Management

• Completes follow-up duties with all residents of Safe Passages for a lease six months once they have exited the shelter.


• Initiates follow-up call to the victim within 24 to 48 hours of the incident and verify the victim's safety and conduct safety planning.


• Is primarily telephone domestic violence hotline counselor during business hours.


• Provides direction and support to Hotline Specialists for homeless and domestic violence callers.


• Helps to train CCSI staff, interns and volunteers on homeless and domestic violence callers.


• Tracks and submits follow-up information to the Shelter Manager at least monthly.


• Designs a series of educational events for domestic violence survivors, domestic violence prevention and safety planning.


• Represents the agency for outreach events in coordination with the Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator.


• Acknowledges receipt of the Standards for Excellence: An Ethics and Accountability Code for the Non-Profit Sector and maintains policies, procedures and standards required for agency accreditations.

Administrative Duties

• Communicates problems to supervisors when necessary.


• Maintains confidentiality.


• Attends in-services and meetings as scheduled.


• Contact supervisors in case of emergency.


• Maintains workstations.


• Performs other duties as requested that are not specifically listed but are consistent with the position and skills of the incumbent and necessary for the efficient and effective operation of CCSI.

Work Conditions

• Potential exposure to highly emotional and stressful situations, potential exposure to aggressive encounters via telephone.


• Position requires sitting for log periods of time.
