As a Billing and Authorization Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring services are authorized, billed, and reimbursed correctly. You’ll work closely with funders, staff, and leadership to keep financial and service data accurate, timely, and compliant.

Obtain and maintain service authorizations across funding sources, serving as the main contact for funders and ensuring timely, accurate entry into systems.
Verify Medicaid and other funding eligibility, prepare monthly eligibility reports, and communicate updates to program staff.
Review assessments to confirm accurate tier rates, collaborate on appeals, and support program leadership with funding questions.
Complete monthly billing across all services and funders, reconcile records, resolve denied claims, process adjustments, and monitor accounts receivable.
Serve as a knowledgeable resource for staff, providing guidance on billing, authorization, and assessment processes.
Safeguard sensitive data and maintain compliance with HIPAA, funding requirements, and organizational standards.
Leverage expertise in billing procedures, accounts receivable, Medicaid, MCO systems, EHR, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel) to ensure accuracy and efficiency.

Associate degree in Accounting, Health Information Management, or related field; or Medical Billing and Coding Certification (equivalent experience considered).
Minimum 2 years of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, or human services finance.
Knowledge of billing procedures, Medicaid, MCO systems, EHR, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Ability to adapt to changing regulations, systems, and organizational needs.
Effective communicator with the ability to build strong relationships and support staff.
Self-directed, dependable, and able to work independently with accuracy.
Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current insurance.
Must pass required background checks (criminal, abuse, Medicaid exclusion).
Must be 18 years of age or older with fluent English communication skills.
