Billing Representative

Description

Responsible for the accurate and timely billing and necessary follow-up of all insurance for patients. Includes all necessary methods of billing.

1. Interacts with other Billing Representatives daily to share necessary information (insurance, etc.)
2. Ensures filing is maintained accurately and timely.
3. Attends all informational and educational meetings as approved by supervisor in order to maintain a high level of competence in billing knowledge. 
4. Interacts in a professional, constructive and productive manner with Patient Accounts and Admissions to achieve accurate patient accounts and overall improve the status of accounts receivable.
5. Submits billings to Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and all commercial insurances promptly and accurately.
6. Inspects insurance claims for accuracy prior to electronic submission.
7. Corrects any rejected claims on-line, or through other appropriate means, in a timely manner.
8. Researches and corrects accounts for Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and other commercial insurance carriers which are brought to attention by Patient Accounts staff as past normal age of collection.
9. Assists in other areas of the Business Office/Admissions as necessary/scheduled.
10. Brings issues the attention of the CFO that address the improvement of billing and collection of accounts receivable. 
11. Assists other Billing Representatives in completing billing during absences or when needed to address various situations.
12. Follows-up with Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and other commercial insurance carriers to determine status of clinic credit balances.
13. Assists patients and family members as necessary or requested maintaining a courteous, helpful manner with all parties involved.
14. Keeps foremost in behavior the knowledge that guest relations is the cornerstone of patient, family and employee relations.
15. Attends department and hospital-wide meetings as scheduled.
16. Completes other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED

Prior experience in medical billing preferred

Experience with electronic billing systems
