Bioinformatician

ProSource360 Consulting Services, Inc. is seeking Bioinformatician to support the analysis, management, and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data and pathogen genomics at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. This role will support the United States Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine (USAFSAM) in research and surveillance efforts focused on respiratory pathogens and other emerging infectious diseases.

Responsibilities

The Bioinformatician will:

• Assist in sequence analysis of respiratory and other operationally relevant pathogen data, including gathering and interpreting sequencing datasets
• Develop, maintain, and implement bioinformatics pipelines using computational languages such as Linux/Unix, Python, Perl, and cloud computing environments
• Curate and compile sequence data from public databases and prepare datasets for submission to public repositories
• Manage code repositories and analytical pipelines using version control systems like Git, including code annotation and issue tracking
• Support the development and evaluation of novel diagnostic tools for respiratory viruses and emerging pathogens
• Collect, assemble, analyze, and interpret large genomic sequence datasets for surveillance and research purposes, ensuring data integrity throughout the process
• Stay current with advances in next-generation sequencing technologies and molecular analytics
• Collaborate with programmers and end-users to define data requirements and develop data collection tools
• Perform data archiving and ensure compliance with all relevant data confidentiality and privacy regulations, including HIPAA and the Privacy Act of 1974
• Participate in publication of scientific findings and complete ad hoc data projects as assigned

• Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Public Health, Biocomputing, or related field
• Strong skills and experience with scripting, data visualization, data management, programming, and analysis tools including Linux/Unix, Python, Perl, Tableau, MS Excel, and R/R Studio
• Expert knowledge of bioinformatics software for sequence analysis, next-generation sequencing assembly, and gene expression studies
• Familiarity with network and server administration to support data flow and storage
• Experience developing data collection tools, data dictionaries, and minimum data elements preferred
• Experience with workflow languages and containerization technologies such as Nextflow, Snakemake, Docker, and Conda
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information with a signed Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)

Highly Desired Skills

• Experience working in pathogen genomics, infectious disease surveillance, or related bioinformatics fields
• Familiarity with cloud computing environments and collaborative coding platforms
• Experience with data submission to public genomic databases and version control systems
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
