Biological Water Treatment Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Wastewater Treatment Engineer to join our team and provide technical leadership and sustaining support for the uninterrupted operation within our facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining safe, efficient 24/7 water treatment operations, addressing technical challenges, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal system performance.

Responsibilities:

•  Deliver best-in-class industrial wastewater treatment by providing technical guidance and equipment sustaining support to provide safe and uninterrupted 24/7 factory operations.


• Optimize submersible and vertical turbine pump stations with advanced variable frequency drive control strategies, focusing on hydraulic performance and energy efficiency.


• Configure complex Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) systems with integrated anaerobic, anoxic, and aerobic treatment zones to maximize nitrogen and phosphorus removal through precise microbial population management.


• Specify and implement advanced Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technologies, including ultrafiltration and microfiltration membrane configurations with automated performance monitoring and sophisticated fouling mitigation techniques.


• Engineer comprehensive dewatering processes utilizing belt press and centrifuge equipment, developing strategic polymer dosing protocols and advanced solids concentration reduction methodologies.


• Develop integrated water treatment system architectures with robust SCADA implementations, creating real-time performance dashboards and predictive maintenance strategies.


• Execute sophisticated analytical monitoring approaches using spectrophotometric and chromatographic techniques, configuring automated online water quality assessment and statistical process control protocols.


• Complex hydraulic modeling systems that correlate operational data, enabling comprehensive performance evaluation and continuous process optimization across multiple water treatment infrastructure components.


• Implement advanced process control algorithms that dynamically adjust treatment parameters based on real-time water quality metrics, ensuring consistent effluent standards and operational reliability.


• Work frequently with construction and trade partners on break-fix and system improvement projects-significant field presence expected.


• Maintain Plan of Record documentation and specifications governing system design, troubleshooting, and operations.


• Plan and coordinate daily work with engineering and technician teams. Assess process health through data mining and correlation.


• Provide direct support and maintain periodic communication with key suppliers to ensure the latest and most cost-effective solutions are implemented and that technical accuracy is maintained in master specifications and standards.


• Develop and edit technical documents including operating documents, job plans, training packages, and troubleshooting documents.


• Communicate with various audiences including engineering group leaders, operations group leaders, facilities engineers and others as needed.


• Skills with MS Office Suite, Outlook, Word, Excel.


• Read schematics and complex drawings/diagrams


• Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role. 

Skills Required:

• 3+ years of experience operating, maintaining and/or sustaining biological water systems those systems include: Biological Nutrient Removal, Membrane Bioreactors, and Dewatering systems.


• Must have experience working in industrial facilities and/or wastewater treatment centers. 


• Written and verbal communication skills.


• Good problem solving and system troubleshooting skills.


• Willingness to work on diverse tasks in an ambiguous environment and adjust to rapidly changing priorities


• Safety commitment and a demonstrated safety role model.


• Work well with minimal supervision and work well in a team.

Education / Licenses / Certifications

• Must have a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, or similar engineering discipline


• Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
