Job Description - Biologist/Ecologist





Description

At Dawood Engineering, Inc., we provide multi-disciplined consulting services for a wide range of industries encompassing Transportation, Energy & Land Planning/Site Development.
 

Our engineers and professionals provide Highway Design and Traffic Engineering, Bridge and Structural Engineering, Civil Design, Surveying and Mapping, Pipeline and Associated Facility Design, Geotechnical/Geophysical, Environmental Studies and Water/Wastewater design.

We are currently seeking a Biologist/Ecologist to join our team in our Enola, PA office location. As part of this role, you will be a part of our environmental team assisting with performing environmental due diligence, assessing project areas for natural resources, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project compliance.  Regular travel to field sites is expected and may vary depending on the time of year.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Lead Wetland Delineation Fieldwork and Natural Resource Surveys: Oversee and conduct wetland delineations and other natural resource surveys to document site characteristics and gather data for preliminary site evaluations and environmental assessments, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

· Environmental Impact Assessments: Assess the potential impacts of proposed projects (e.g., construction, development) on natural resources and ecosystems. Provide recommendations for minimizing impacts and ensuring environmental protection.

· Prepare Environmental Permit Applications: Develop and submit detailed permit applications for wetland impacts, stream 

crossings, and other natural resource activities, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal permitting processes.

· Identify Threatened and Endangered Species and Habitat Assessment: Assist with identifying potential conflicts with threatened and endangered species, conducting habitat assessments, and contributing to conservation planning to minimize environmental impacts and ensure regulatory compliance.

· Familiarity with NEPA Procedures: Apply knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) procedures to support environmental impact assessments and ensure compliance during project planning and development, including coordination of federal environmental reviews.

· Conduct Environmental Sampling and Data Collection: Collect water, soil, and air samples, as well as biological and ecological data, to support assessments and monitoring activities related to natural resource management.

· Prepare Technical Reports and Environmental Deliverables: Prepare detailed technical reports, permit application packages, and other environmental deliverables, documenting findings from field surveys, and providing recommendations for mitigating potential impacts.

· Maintain Professional Communication: Effectively communicate with clients, landowners, regulatory agencies, and other interested parties in a professional and timely manner, keeping all stakeholders informed and engaged throughout project phases.

· Work Independently and Collaboratively: Demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team, travel regularly to field locations, adhere to project timelines, and maintain a safe and compliant working environment.


Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • 4-7 years of professional experience in environmental science, ecology, or related fields, with hands-on experience in wetland delineations, habitat assessments, and natural resource management.
    • Practical experience with regulatory permitting (e.g., Section 401/404 permits) and working knowledge of state and federal regulations (such as NEPA, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act).
    • Knowledge and experience conducting ecological surveys, water quality sampling, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Certifications:
    • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or other relevant certifications preferred. 
    • OSHA or First Aid/CPR certifications for fieldwork safety.
