Description

The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for maintaining, repairing, testing, calibrating, installing, and de-installing medical and simulation equipment. The BMET performs preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshoots complex electronic and electromechanical systems, ensures compliance with applicable safety and regulatory standards, maintains equipment records within approved maintenance management systems, evaluates equipment serviceability and lifecycle requirements, and provides user training to medical personnel. The position requires both technical expertise and hands-on field support, including operation of government vehicles, use of specialized test equipment, adherence to electrical safety procedures, and compliance with Air Force, DoD, OSHA, FDA, and healthcare accreditation standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Engineering, or closely related field.
  • Minimum two years of Biomedical Equipment Technician experience supporting the maintenance, repair, calibration, and troubleshooting of medical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience applying electronic principles to diagnose system failures, perform component-level troubleshooting, and manage system configurations.
  • Experience troubleshooting highly complex electronic and electromechanical systems, including hardware and software components.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare and safety regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, NEC, FDA, and healthcare accreditation standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to operate government vehicles.
  • Ability to pass a color vision test and safely lift equipment in accordance with NIOSH lifting standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work effectively with medical, military, and technical personnel. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Military medical, military deployment, or Department of Defense healthcare experience.
  • Experience using Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS).
  • Experience maintaining simulation, research, or specialized clinical equipment.
  • Knowledge of Air Force medical maintenance programs and operational requirements.
  • Certification such as CBET (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician) or equivalent biomedical certification.
  • Experience conducting equipment lifecycle assessments and replacement planning.
  • Familiarity with Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety programs.
  • Experience providing end-user training on medical equipment operation and preventive maintenance.
  • Experience supporting Joint Commission or other healthcare accreditation inspections.
  • Prior experience supporting government or military contracts.
