Description

Job Function

As a Floater:

  1. Assist the Teacher (as needed) within the classrooms by completing daily indoor/outdoor reports, meal counts, daily activity sheets, etc.          
  2. Assist in the daily sanitation of the classrooms and facility including making cleaning solution daily, cleaning classrooms after children’s meals, at the end of the day, and maintaining sanitation logs.  
  3. Maintain all laundry as needed within the center including washing folding, sorting, and distributing to classrooms on a daily or weekly basis.  
  4. Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required.  
  5. Assist the Teacher (as needed) in maintaining records on each child’s progress and development for the purpose of planning and compliance with Head Start Program Performance Standards. (Maintains daily attendance of children and staff in each classroom). 
  6. Responsible for assisting the teacher (as needed) with the full implementation of Head Start, NAEYC, Texas Childcare Licensing performance standards, policies and procedures, regulations and guidelines in the day-to-day operation of an early childhood development center (6 weeks -5 years of age) including developmentally appropriate practices for an Early Head Start and Head Start programs. Implements daily lesson plans for assigned curriculum as needed.
  7. Maintain a well-organized, safe and attractive classroom environment conducive to the optimal growth and development of children. Supports the Social and Emotional development of children. Observe each child daily to assess skills, interests, and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth. 
  8. Ensure each child’s personal hygiene is maintained including but not limited to diaper changing, changing of clothes, hand washing, and feeding of infants on demand when necessary.
  9. Assist the teacher in conducting home visits and parent conference (as needed) and work cooperatively and effectively as a team member. 
  10. Assist Teacher (when needed) in planning and implementing the daily program of activities based on principles of early child development and in accordance with the program’s curriculum. Assist in creating interactive parent-child activity materials. 
  11. Establish a positive relationship with each child’s family and ensure good Customer Service to participants, staff and community partners.
  12. Maintain all certifications such as CPR as required to meet job requirements.
  13. Must be able to travel locally to attend meetings, trainings, events, etc. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance in compliance with AVANCE-Houston policies and/or procedures, local, state, and federal laws.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

As a Cook:

  1. Inspects food being prepared to ensure proper quantity, quality, and handling; cooks, prepares, and handles food.
  2. Operates mixers, ovens, choppers, shredders, steamers, grills, grinders, and other food equipment.
  3. Keeps records and makes reports according to AVANCE, USDA and CACFP guidelines.
  4. Prepares food, cooks and handles food according to standard menus, recipes, and prepare and cooks vegetables, meats, soups and cereals; prepares salads, desserts and beverages, quick breads, etc.
  5. Leads and participates in the cleaning of the kitchen and equipment; assures that standards of sanitation and safety are met.
  6. Adjusts recipes to volume of demand according to measurements regulation descripted by CACFP and USDA food program.
  7. Inventories and maintains necessary supplies and goods for assigned meals.
  8. Leads and participates in the storage and utilization of leftover ingredients and products; rotate stock and date according to CACFP guidelines.
  9. Operates standard cooking equipment.
  10. Attends stand meetings, trainings, and seminars are required.
  11. Able to travel for business activities.
  12. Understanding of Infants and Toddlers meals requirements and feeding cycle.
  13. Able to travel for business related activities
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED must be earned from a state accredited or federally recognized education program.

Experience

  • Required: At least six months work experience with children Birth to Five years old or experience in an Early Childhood setting.
  • Preferred: One year in commercial kitchen. Able to read, write and understand basic math skills.
