Position: Blacksmith I
Shift: 1st shift
Compensation: $32-37 per hour

Overview of Role:

The Blacksmith I is responsible for assisting in creating, shaping, and finishing metal objects using traditional blacksmithing tools and techniques. This entry-level position will involve working under the supervision of more experienced blacksmiths to learn and practice forging, welding, and metalworking skills. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn, have a strong work ethic, and demonstrate attention to detail while following safety protocols in a dynamic, hands-on environment.

• Basic welding and metal joining techniques

Key Deliverables

• Assist in the forging, shaping, and finishing various metal products, including tools, custom metal items, and hardware.
• Help prepare work areas by setting up tools, materials, and equipment for each task.
• Operate anvils, hammers, and other blacksmithing tools under supervision to shape metal products.
• Assist in welding, soldering, and metal joining tasks as needed.
• Follow safety protocols and always ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of blacksmithing tools and equipment.
• Measure, cut, and trim metal pieces to specifications as directed by senior blacksmiths.
• Assist in troubleshooting minor issues and adjusting during the forging process.
• Work with the team to ensure that quality and production standards are met.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including proper disposal of waste materials.
• Follow the instructions that senior blacksmiths and supervisors provide to enhance your skills and improve your craftsmanship.

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Some experience or coursework in metalworking, welding, or a related field is a plus.
• Familiarity with basic hand tools and machinery (e.g., hammers, drills, grinders).
• Basic knowledge of safety practices in a workshop or industrial environment.
• Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 pounds) and stand for extended periods.
• Eagerness to learn and grow in the blacksmithing trade.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience in blacksmithing or metalworking (internships, apprenticeships, or personal projects).
• Basic understanding of welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, stick).
• Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing or crafting environment.
• Willingness to pursue further education or certification in blacksmith or related fields.

Technology Requirements:

• Basic understanding of workshop tools (e.g., anvils, grinders, welding machines).
• Familiarity with basic power and hand tools.
• Ability to use measurement tools (e.g., calipers, tape measures) to ensure accuracy in metalworking.

• The ability to work in a hot, noisy, and physically demanding environment.
• A positive attitude and willingness to collaborate with a team.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in producing high-quality work.

• Flexibility to work on a variety of metalworking projects is needed.
