Job Description Summary
The Technical Leader – Product Definition Engineering (PDE) CAD and PDE processes will provide technical leadership for Product Definition Engineering activities supporting new product introduction, new technology introduction, and design change programs. This role will focus on strengthening PDE capability through process improvement, CAD standardization, automation, digital transformation, and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The role requires deep technical expertise in CAD processes, engineering documentation, manufacturing model translation, and configuration/change management. The successful candidate will work across engineering, manufacturing, and digital teams to drive robust, scalable, and efficient PDE solutions.
This position is ideal for a strong technical leader who can combine hands-on engineering depth with process transformation, standard development, and team capability building.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Standards & Governance: Establish and Own PDE standards, including CAD standards, modeling practices, manufacturing package requirements, and documentation methods.
- PDE Process Transformation: Drive process improvements to enhance PDE quality, productivity, consistency, and delivery performance. Lead the simplification and automation of CAD and PDE processes to reduce manual effort and improve repeatability. Drive the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital solutions within PDE to improve efficiency, quality, and engineering effectiveness
- Manufacturing Integration: Support the translation of engineering design intent into manufacturing-ready models and outputs, including ply splicing, lap outputs, and related composite manufacturing definitions. Drive improvements in geometry quality and smoothening to enhance manufacturability and downstream usability.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with other PDE Technical Leader and other engineering experts to harmonize CAD/PDE processes with the PDE specification and requirement, ensuring a robust "single source of truth."
- Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership for Product Definition Engineering across NPI, NTI, and design change programs. Lead technical problem-solving within PDE in close collaboration with blade engineering experts and execution teams.
- Solution Development: Provide early technical engagement to define robust PDE solutions for engineering packages before execution. Review, approve, and validate technical solutions related to engineering changes, including ECNs.
- Change and Config Management: Own the standards for configuration management and change management practices to ensure controlled, traceable, and efficient design evolution.
- Mentorship & Growth: Mentor and guide PDE team members and contingent workers, supporting technical growth and capability development. Drive knowledge capture and institutionalization through standards, best practices, lessons learned, and reusable methods.
- Collaboration: Participate in technical and program reviews as a presenter, reviewer, and technical decision-maker. Support validation of design and documentation during prototype, test blade, and early production activities.
- Execution: Maintain hands-on involvement in critical PDE tasks, specifically supporting NTI programs and high-stakes technical deliverables.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years' experience in Product Definition Engineering, CAD methodology, engineering documentation, and design change implementation.
- 10+ years' hands-on experience with CATIA and Teamcenter or similar PLM systems.
- Ability to travel up to 20%.
Desired Characteristics
- Strong knowledge of configuration management and engineering change management processes.
- Demonstrated experience driving process improvement, technical standardization, and engineering problem-solving.
- Experience working across cross-functional teams in engineering and manufacturing environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions across functions and levels.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide engineers and contingent team members.
- Experience with composite structures, blade engineering, or large-scale manufactured products.
- Knowledge of CATIA composites and manufacturing-oriented product definition practices.
- Understanding of GD&T principles, preferably ASME Y14.5.
- Experience with fiber-reinforced plastics and composite manufacturing processes.
- Experience with BOM setup and product structure management in Teamcenter or similar PLM systems.
- Experience in CAD automation, digital engineering, or engineering process transformation.
- Exposure to AI applications in engineering, automation, or product development.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to balance strategic initiatives and operational execution.
- Proven ability to drive transformation and influence the adoption of new methods, tools, and standards.
