Job Description - BLE Underwriter Officer II

SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

The BLE Underwriter Officer supports SouthState Bank's enterprise wide small-business credit underwriting, decisioning, and processing program, Business Lending Express (BLE). The BLE Program provides an expedited loan program, allowing the bank to efficiently provide loans to Small to Medium Businesses. In the BLE Underwriting Administrator role, they are responsible for completing the underwriting, decisioning and processing of business loan applications. During the underwriting process, the Underwriting Administrator is responsible for analyzing business and personal credit reports, reviewing, and assessing the proposed collateral, determining whether a loan fits within BLE Policy parameters for approval or if there are adequate factors to mitigate exceptions to policy for approval. If the proposed loan is within the Underwriting Administrator's loan authority, they will make the approval decision on the request. Post approval, the Underwriting Administrator is responsible for ensuring that all documents and information required for closing is provided by the Loan Officer and then overseeing the Centralized Closing Team to have loan documents completed and provided to the loan officer for closing. During the entire process, the BLE Underwriting Administrator acts as a resource and support member to the loan officers utilizing the BLE Program, providing World Class Service to our customers (Loan Officers), allowing them to provide World Class Service to their customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Review loan application processing tasks completed by the BLE Intake processor for accuracy.
  • Assess borrowing entity and guarantors' credit reports.
  • Evaluate proposed collateral including soft business assets, Vehicles and Equipment and Commercial Real Estate.
  • Critically evaluate policy exception requests and determine if request is within the bank's tolerance and adequate mitigating factors are apparent.
  • Identify any additional information and/or documents required for closing of approved BLE Loans.
  • Upon approval and customer acceptance, oversee the Centralized Closing Team to prepare closing package.
  • Provide World Class Service to internal and external customers.
  • Assist the BLE Intake Processor(s) with all tasks as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES
  • Understanding of Personal and Business Financial Statements and Tax Returns
  • Previous experience in commercial credit, commercial loan administration, commercial document preparation, and/or commercial banking.
  • Able to work at a faster than average pace and able to multi-task.
  • Strong sense of urgency, initiative, and drive to complete tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Working knowledge of personal computer, Microsoft Office, and other software used in department.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of customer and employee information.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently.
  • Good knowledge of business English, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Basis language skills to write and speak clearly, effectively, and appropriate to business standards.
  • Able to make sound decisions, able recognize potential problems and take corrective action.
  • Well-organized, accurate, and attentive to detail.
  • Adaptability and flexibility as the Bank and BLE Lending Program grow and continually adjust to changes in the economy and the regulatory environment.
  • Cooperative and willing to assist others.

Qualifications, Education, and Certification Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in business, finance, or accounting. Banking/finance/accounting related work experience will be considered in lieu of a college degree.
  • Experience: 2+ years of financial analysis/banking/credit/underwriting experience required
  • Certifications/Specific Knowledge: None

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

Required annual compliance training; New Employee Orientation

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports. This position requires a large amount of time in front of a computer. This can be done sitting or standing with use of the right desk.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Telecommuting roles no matter if hybrid or 100% full time telecommuting must have a secure home office environment that is free from background noise and distractions. They must also have a reliable private internet connection that is not supplied by use of cellular data (hot spot). Cable or fiber connections are preferred. Requirements are subject to change, as new systems and technology is delivered.

In accordance with Colorado law: Colorado pay for this position is anticipated to be between $58,496.00 - $93,444.00 , actual offers to be determined based on applicant's skills, experience and education.
