Job Description - Branch Manager


The role is accountable for managing the day-to-day operations of the Harlan West Branch office. This includes hiring, training and oversight of the retail staff. As well as opening and maintaining retail deposit accounts and SCSB customer relationships. The Branch Manager will work closely with other key leaders in the bank to implement overall bank objectives that will enhance the value of our franchise. 

  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Create and maintain an exceptional sales and service culture which includes participating in bank’s business development efforts, measuring customer service standards, motivating staff and recognizing staff for sales achievement.
  2. Help lead the development and deployment of product/services with the goal of positioning our Bank competitively and providing for customer demands.
  3. Is accountable for the day-to-day operation of the Harlan West Branch office. This includes personnel management and facility management. The Branch Manager is responsible for staff scheduling, delivering key accountabilities, coaching staff, and performing annual performance reviews.
  4. Provide problem solving leadership in complex situations for complex problems.
  5. Perform proper and timely workflow that relates to opening new accounts and completing all necessary CIP and compliance paperwork to ensure legal and compliant accounts.
  6. Counsel new customers to choose appropriate products. Cross-sell products and services to customers appropriately – identify value for those customers who have a need for a particular product or service.
  7. Complies with regulatory rules and regulations, evidenced through successful completion of training and demonstrated ability. Topics include but are not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Anti Money Laundering, Ethics, Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC), etc.
  8. Create extraordinary customer service in every aspect of your duties at the Shelby County State Bank by strengthening loyalties, listening, caring, exuding empathy, and providing positive solutions when dealing with others.
  9. Reflects a positive image for the Bank by always exuding professional demeanor and contributing to community involvement.
  10. Keep abreast of current industry trends, regulatory issues and overall economic environment. Integrate knowledge into strategic and operational business planning.
  11. Prepares periodic, informational reports for management.
  12. Perform other duties as awarded by management based on performance. 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

Manage tellers and personal bankers in the Harlan West Branch office. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Finance or business-related field required; or five to seven years of banking experience or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Supervisory and management experience preferred.
  • Computer and data processing literacy required, including adept experience with Microsoft Office programs. Experience with MS Access and Business Objects is helpful, but not required. Bank regulation and compliance is required. Mathematical, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills required. 
  • Must be highly motivated with good communication skills, autonomous, and capable executing tactical plans in line with strategic objectives. 

LANGUAGE, MATH, AND REASONING SKILLS

  • Language: Ability to read and interpret legal documents, policies, and procedures. Strong business writing and public speaking skills.
  • Math: Proficiency in applied math techniques such as variance and correlation analysis.
  • Reasoning: Ability to solve complex problems, interpret instructions, and work with abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Valid driver’s license required for travel between branches, training, and customer visits
  • Foreign language skills helpful, but not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and use hands
  • Must be able to lift/move up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally
  • Requires specific vision abilities, including depth perception and color vision
  • Must be able to work from the West Branch (Harlan, IA) and occasionally work beyond standard hours, including Saturdays

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Moderate noise level; occasional work with mechanical devices and outdoor weather
