Job Overview


Citadel’s Branch Manager in Training program is designed to develop future Branch Managers through structured learning, coaching, rotational assignments, and hands-on branch leadership experience. The incumbent will learn the core responsibilities of a Branch Manager, including directing sales and business development, supporting operational objectives, delivering an exceptional member experience, developing and coaching branch teams, and ensuring the branch is positioned to achieve its annual goals.


The Branch Manager in Training will work closely with assigned Branch Managers, Retail leadership, Business Banking partners, and support teams to build the knowledge, judgment, and leadership capabilities required to successfully manage a branch. The incumbent will establish a solid foundation of trust with every member, employee, business partner, and community contact, thereby positioning Citadel as the best choice for all banking needs.


Responsibilities



  • Participate in all phases of the Branch Manager in Training curriculum, including branch operations, sales leadership, business development, member experience, compliance, risk management, and team coaching.

  • Learn to develop and manage a defined market business plan to increase profitability, track performance, and revise the plan to optimize performance.

  • Assist with cultivating existing member relationships by maintaining periodic contact to determine banking needs, financial trends, and changes in member conditions and needs.

  • Develop the ability to manage a book of clients, with emphasis on cross selling and deepening customer relationships with the credit union through proactive outreach and outside calling.

  • Learn to manage the daily operation of the branch, including operations, sales, customer service, and security in accordance with Citadel’s objectives, policies, and procedures.

  • Support branch achievement of annual goals by participating in sales coaching, direct marketing activities, performance tracking, and recognition of sales and service success.

  • Assist in assuring that the office meets the highest levels of service excellence and integrity through ongoing communication of the organization’s strategies and expectations.

  • Develop leadership skills to coach staff, support career development, and ensure team members participate in appropriate training to perform standard sales and service delivery.

  • Learn interviewing, talent selection, onboarding, and performance management practices to support future branch leadership responsibilities.

  • Learn to optimize branch resources to achieve the greatest return in sales generation, efficiency, and member satisfaction.

  • Develop knowledge of branch risk management and loss prevention practices by ensuring awareness of suspicious activity, operational updates, compliance requirements, and security measures.

  • Learn to provide sound financial decisions in conjunction with fee and interest rate reviews and escalate exceptions to Retail leadership for review as appropriate.

  • Evaluate business trends for the office and collaborate with leadership to support successful outcomes aligned with business strategies.

  • Serve as an ambassador of Citadel to enhance the reputation of Citadel in the community.

  • Assist with customer transactions when needed, including but not limited to cash handling, inbound calls, and problem resolution.

  • Support a positive banking experience for office customers and members through consistent execution of Citadel’s service standards.


Business Banking Learning & Development



  • Develop a strong working knowledge of Citadel’s Business Banking products, services, treasury management solutions, deposit capabilities, and lending referral opportunities.

  • Partner with Business Banking Relationship Managers and Retail leadership to identify opportunities to deepen business member relationships and expand Citadel’s market presence.

  • Learn to recognize business owner needs through consultative conversations and make effective referrals to appropriate Business Banking partners.

  • Participate in joint business member calls, networking events, chamber activities, and community outreach to build experience in prospecting and relationship development.

  • Develop proficiency in identifying small business deposit needs, cash flow considerations, and opportunities to introduce business members to additional Citadel solutions.

  • Support branch and market business development activities that generate qualified Business Banking referrals and strengthen local business relationships.

  • Meet and comply with all requirements set forth in the SAFE Act, including, but not limited to, successful completion of required background checks and obtaining a unique identifier from the NMLS when applicable.

  • Remain compliant with the Bank Secrecy Act by completing annual BSA training.

  • Complete all required training, development activities, readiness assessments, and program assignments.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Education Requirements



  • 2+ years of banking, financial services, retail leadership, sales management, customer service leadership, customer focused business ownership or related experience.

  • Demonstrated interest and aptitude for branch leadership, sales development, business development, and team coaching.

  • Basic Computer Literacy required.

  • Financial Industry experience preferred.

  • Notary preferred or ability to obtain.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or related 1+ years’ experience.

  • Proficient or developing proficiency in internal and external Business Development skills.

  • Ability to develop business relationships and identify opportunities to expand small business and business banking relationships.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership potential, coaching ability, and performance management aptitude.

  • Professional appearance and demeanor.

  • NMLS optional or ability to obtain as required.
