Breast Patient Navigator

I. INTRODUCTION

A. This position is located within Raleigh Radiology imaging centers, free-standing outpatient imaging centers located throughout Wake and surrounding counties, with the ability to work remotely.

B. The Breast Navigator is responsible for maintaining mammography patient records, scheduling and tracking mammography follow-up, including diagnostic mammography, biopsies, and pathology results, and sending out patient results letters for all Raleigh Radiology imaging centers. This is a centralized position.

C. This position reports to the Senior Manager of Practice Operations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

General Duties 

a. Maintains standards of professional care and maintains patient confidentiality.

b. Implements policies and procedures of Raleigh Radiology.

c. Performs job responsibilities in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.

d. Reports and records pertinent information in the Radiology Information System.

e. Assists patients, referral coordinators, referring physicians, and coworkers

f. Participates in the economical utilization of supplies.

g. Maintains a clean, neat, professional workspace, focusing on the protection of confidential information. Personal items are kept at a minimum and out of view of non-employees.

h. Assures that equipment is always maintained and available for use.

i. Assists coworkers and physicians to ensure timely and accurate delivery of care.

j. Establishes and maintains open communication.

k. Assists with / or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse occurrences when necessary.

l.. Maintains a clean, safe, and well-maintained supply environment for patients and staff.  

m. On regular, sustained basis, cooperates with other staff members both inside and outside the department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting other in accomplishing theirs; serves as team player and role model for other employees in the organization, always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect; conducts oneself in service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with team members, visitors, public and all employees.

n. Performs other duties and accepts responsibility, as assigned.

Is properly trained and can demonstrate competent use of the Radiology Information System (RIS), telephone system, scanners/printers, and other equipment related to the specific job.

Job Specific Duties 

a. Performs follow-up calls and updates reports with pathology results following breast biopsies

b. Contact patients and referrers to schedule breast biopsies and obtain all orders and documentation needed prior to performing the procedure

c. Executes MRI prostate segmentation workflow

d. Performs all tasks required to track, print, and mail results letters to patients for mammography within MQSA guidelines

e. Assists the QC Specialist with any additional duties related to ACR, MQSA, or patient safety tasks as assigned

f. Answers telephone calls by 3rds ring to accomplish records requests from referring physicians’ staff, referring physicians, and patients.

g. Follows established protocol for providing service in a professional, efficient manner.

h. Answers questions from patients in the scope of knowledge. Directs questions to appropriate personnel if unable to answer questions.
