Job Description - Broadcast Maintenance Technician

WLWT, the Hearst Television owned NBC affiliate in Cincinnati is looking for an experienced Broadcast Maintenance Technician. The maintenance technician preserves the technical integrity of the stations on-air signals and its equipment from acquisition to distribution. You will support all station efforts in-house and on remote locations. You will report to the Engineering Director.ResponsibilitiesWorks closely with engineering and IT management and staff to support critical on-air systems and workflows including news, production, and broadcast systems and equipmentProvides user support in a Windows workstation environment for custom and standard software applicationsAdministers, maintains, and troubleshoots newsroom automation and streaming systems including field gearHandles hardware configuration, imaging, and deployment, performs back-ups, and supports LAN infrastructure Assist users with installing and using new software and featuresApplies software, updates services, and executes OS upgradesMaintains digital transmitters, microwave central receive sites, satellite antenna systems, signal distribution and routing systems, processing systems, monitoring devices, and automation systemsMaintains production equipment including robotic camera system, production switcher, playout servers, graphics devices, lighting systems, weather graphics and weather systems, audio consoles, microphones, and IFBsMaintains news-gathering equipment including ENG cameras, field gear, ENG, DSNG, and SNG trucks, editing systems, and support devicesMaintains support equipment including master and sub switchers, monitors, computer systems, microphones, intercoms, and archive videotape machines and XDCAM decksConducts troubleshooting, installation, research, documentation, and cabling tasksMust have 2+ years of experience working as a maintenance technician or an IT support specialist at a commercial television station with extensive experience in maintaining and troubleshooting a wide variety of broadcast equipment or 5+ years of experience in a related military occupation specialty Qualification RequirementsProficiency with computers, computer systems, and networkingSolid background in broadcast television systems, transmission, and satellite communicationsMust have basic skill with video production, microwave systems, IT infrastructure, and station automation systemsExcellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to repair equipment down to the circuit level Must be able to read and understand technical manuals, diagrams, and schematicsCan lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, work on rooftops, and in confined spacesExperience maintaining and troubleshooting digital broadcast transmittersExperience with Autocad for system design and layoutFlexible to work various days and non-standard shifts as assignedAble to work effectively with other team members and independentlyCapable of following instructions, verbal and writtenWork independentlyAble to sit or stand for long periods of timeMust have excellent vision (with or without corrective lenses) with the ability to read and distinguish colorsIn person work required Associates degree in electronic engineering, IT networks and systems administration, or a minimum of two-years of an accredited IT and electronics school equivalentMilitary training and experience in electronics, avionics, or related fields will be consideredSBE CPBE (or better) certification a plusMilitary Broadcast Television Equipment Maintenance (BTVEM) course from Defense Information School (DINFOS) a plusDiversity StatementAt Hearst Television we tell stories every day.
