Biological Sciences Division, Information Services (BSDIS) is the information technology group responsible for supporting the technology needs of the BSD. Technology Solutions & Services is a section of BSDIS that supports end user computing devices in administrative, clinical, and research departments within the BSD. We are currently growing our service area of Audio-Visual support. Job Summary
The job supervises and monitors a team of BSDIS support staff responsible for audio-visual services and working closely with staff and faculty within a unit. Responsible for the team who is assembling, operating, and maintaining audio-visual equipment for meetings, classrooms, etc.
This position also provides audio-visual support to BSD auditoriums, conference rooms, and classrooms across several BSD buildings. They will interact with University IT (IT Services) and/or University of Chicago Hospital IT (UCM IT) to restore service and/or identify and correct core problems as well as work to align on technologies and strategy. Responsibilities Leadership and Team Management: Lead and manage the AV team, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
Provide mentorship, professional development, and training to team members.
Schedule and assign tasks to ensure the efficient operation of AV services across campus.
AV Technology Support: Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of AV equipment, including projectors, sound systems, interactive displays, and video conferencing systems.
Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to support their AV needs for lectures, presentations, and events.
Stay updated on emerging AV technologies and make recommendations for upgrades and improvements.
Classroom and Event Support: Oversee the setup and operation of AV equipment in classrooms, lecture halls, and event spaces.
Ensure that all AV systems are functional and user-friendly for instructors, presenters, and event organizers.
Provide technical support during lectures, workshops, and special events.
Project Management: Plan and manage AV projects, including equipment installations, upgrades, and renovations.
Collaborate with other departments, such as IT and Facilities, to integrate AV systems into campus infrastructure.
Monitor project budgets and timelines to ensure successful completion.
Training and Documentation: Develop and deliver training programs for end-users and staff on AV equipment and best practices.
Maintain clear and up-to-date documentation on AV systems, configurations, and procedures.
Vendor and Budget Management: Manage relationships with AV equipment vendors, negotiate contracts, and oversee procurement.
Monitor the AV budget, control expenditures, and seek cost-effective solutions.
Quality Assurance and Compliance: Ensure AV services comply with industry standards, ADA regulations, and accessibility requirements.
Conduct regular quality assessments to maintain high standards of service delivery.
Other Responsibilities: Coordinates all levels of production management, including researching and purchasing video/audio equipment and administering media servers. Continually evolves processes and protocols and implements new hardware, software and equipment solutions to enable higher quality productions with improved workflow and shorter turn-around times.
Plans and conceptualizes the scope of projects, and provides content strategy and editorial direction.
Plans team priorities, supervises personnel, develops and manages budget, plans for growth and expansion and delegates staff time and other resources.
Manages some client relations, develops proposals, and may negotiate project budgets.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in AV technology and support, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
Technical Skills or Knowledge: Extron experience is a plus.
Preferred Competencies Maintain confidentiality/discretion at all times.
Ability to handle multiple concurrent tasks in a competent and professional manner in a fast-paced atmosphere.
Ability to solve problems independently with limited direction.
Ability to work accurately with attention to detail.
Working Conditions Works on-site at The University of Chicago, Hyde Park campus covering rooms and spaces within multiple buildings in research, academic, and/or medical spaces.
