The Building & Grounds Manager stewards the physical environments of Sherwood Oaks so that every person who steps onto our campus encounters spaces that are safe, functional, and ready for ministry. This role carries broad responsibility for building infrastructure, outdoor grounds, physical security, vendor relationships, and our vehicle fleet — and is essential to the long-term care of the resources God has entrusted to our church. The right person for this role won't just see a job — they'll see an opportunity to serve the church they love and make ministry possible for thousands of people every week.
The Building & Grounds Manager will be responsible for the following:
Oversee all outdoor spaces to safe, clean, and ministry-ready standards across Sherwood Oaks.
Lead and schedule seasonal outdoor staff and grounds volunteers for mowing, trimming, snow/ice removal, and seasonal upkeep.
Maintain and monitor key building systems — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, and elevators — managing maintenance schedules, lifecycle planning, and all related vendor and contractor relationships; collaborate with the IT Director on technology-integrated systems (access control, cameras, building automation).
Own Sherwood Oaks' physical security program — develop and maintain campus security protocols, emergency response procedures, and emergency action plans; serve as primary coordinator for contracted law enforcement presence during Sunday services and major events; develop and lead a trained security volunteer team.
Maintain AED and first aid readiness across all campuses; coordinate with local entities on emergency preparedness.
Own and manage all major vendor relationships — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/security, elevator, roofing, flooring, pest control, and others — negotiating contracts with fiscal responsibility and mission alignment.
Ensure compliance with fire codes, ADA standards, elevator inspection requirements, and applicable safety protocols; coordinate annual insurance audit with the Executive of Operations.
Maintain the church vehicle fleet in safe, compliant, and operationally ready condition; oversee maintenance schedules, driver qualification standards, DOT compliance, and vehicle recommendations.
Serve as primary liaison for major project partners during construction or renovation projects; support master site planning with operational knowledge of current systems and infrastructure.
Respond to after-hours building emergencies as needed.
