Job Description - Building Automation Systems (BAS) Controls Technician
We are seeking an experienced Building Automation Controls Specialist to support installation, programming, commissioning, and service of HVAC automation systems in the Mobile, Alabama region. This position focuses on implementing and maintaining building automation technologies that optimize HVAC performance, energy efficiency, and operational reliability in commercial and institutional facilities.
The role involves hands-on work with modern BAS platforms and control networks while collaborating with engineers, electricians, and project managers during system deployment and troubleshooting. The technician will serve as a key technical resource during installation, diagnostics, and commissioning phases for projects throughout the Mobile area.
Candidates should have at least three years of experience with building automation or HVAC control systems and be comfortable working independently at job sites across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Install and commission building automation controllers, sensors, and HVAC control devices at project sites in the Mobile area
Program, configure, and update BAS logic using platforms such as Tridium Niagara N4, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric systems
Integrate control systems using communication protocols including BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks
Perform system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and performance tuning for BAS-controlled HVAC equipment
Assist with system upgrades, modernization initiatives, and automation retrofits for existing facilities
Review electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and system documentation to ensure proper installation and operation
Generate commissioning reports, service records, and as-built documentation
Provide technical support and operational guidance to facility personnel and project stakeholders
Collaborate with construction teams and engineering staff during installation and project completion phases
Minimum 3 years of experience working with building automation systems or HVAC control technologies
Practical knowledge of BAS platforms such as Niagara N4, Honeywell, or Schneider Electric
Ability to read electrical schematics, control diagrams, and installation documentation
Experience installing and terminating low-voltage control wiring
Familiarity with BAS communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks
Strong troubleshooting ability related to HVAC controls and automation networks
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally to project sites
Professional communication skills when working with clients and project teams
Preferred Qualifications
Niagara N4 certification or manufacturer-specific BAS training
Experience with building energy management systems or monitoring dashboards
Basic understanding of IP networking, switches, and automation system connectivity
Previous experience with BAS system upgrades or integration projects
