Building Automation Systems Service Technician

Location: San Diego, CA

We are seeking a skilled and client-focused Building Automation Systems Service Technician to optimize, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced BAS installations. This role emphasizes service work, ensuring that BAS systems operate efficiently to meet energy, comfort, and operational goals. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in BAS maintenance, a solid understanding of HVAC systems, and the ability to resolve both routine and complex technical issues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Respond promptly to service calls, diagnosing and resolving BAS issues to minimize downtime.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and system inspections to ensure peak performance and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and correct deficiencies in BAS software, hardware, and mechanical integrations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to identify needs, propose solutions, and maintain high levels of satisfaction.
  • Monitor and adjust BAS programs and sequences to maintain energy efficiency and operational standards.
  • Implement software updates, programming adjustments, and reconfigurations to address system enhancements or client requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for system retrofits, upgrades, or enhancements and provide recommendations to clients.
  • Train clients on system operation and best practices to ensure effective use of their BAS.
  • Collaborate with the Service Manager to create estimates and proposals for additional work or projects.
  • Calibrate, commission, and fine-tune system components, including sensors, actuators, and controllers.
  • Manage equipment such as VAVs, AHUs, fan coils, chillers, boilers, and lighting controls to ensure proper integration and operation.
  • Stay updated on the latest BAS technologies and industry best practices to enhance service delivery.
  • Provide feedback to improve service workflows and client experience.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Field Experience: Proven experience in servicing and optimizing BAS systems, with a focus on DDC controls and HVAC integration.
  • Education: Associate degree in HVAC, Electronics, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of BAS platforms such as Niagara AX, N4, Alerton, Distech, Johnson Controls, or similar systems.
  • Certifications: Manufacturer certifications or training in BAS platforms are highly desirable.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting capabilities for BAS components and programming.
  • Customer Service: Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client engagement and relationship building.
  • Documentation: Ability to maintain detailed service records and provide accurate reports.
  • Blueprint Literacy: Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical diagrams.

Position Levels:

  • Technician: Capable of independently performing standard BAS service tasks and resolving technical issues.
  • Senior Technician: Possesses advanced expertise in BAS programming and diagnostics, mentors junior technicians, and provides strategic insights for system optimization.
