Job Description - Building Engineer


The Building Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and monitoring of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life safety systems. This role ensures facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements. The Building Engineer performs preventive maintenance, responds to service requests, and supports overall building performance to provide a safe and comfortable environment for occupants.

 


Pay: $30- $35 per hour.


The pay listed is the hourly range or the hourly rate for this position. A specific offer will vary based on applicant’s experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, and alignment with market data.


 


401(k) – You become eligible to make personal contributions beginning the first of the month following 30 days of employment. You become eligible for the ABM match beginning the first of the month following six months of employment. ABM matches your pre-tax and/or Roth contributions, dollar for dollar, for the first 3%. For the next 2%, ABM contributes $0.50 for each dollar you contribute. Your contributions and match are immediately vested.

Responsibilites



  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and mechanical equipment.

  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections according to established schedules and procedures.

  • Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and respond to system alarms and abnormalities.

  • Inspect equipment, identify deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Respond promptly to tenant and facility service requests.

  • Coordinate and oversee work performed by third-party contractors and vendors.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and equipment documentation.

  • Conduct routine building inspections to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

  • Support emergency response efforts and participate in after-hours on-call rotations as required.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, local building codes, environmental standards, and company safety policies.

  • Assist with capital improvement projects, equipment upgrades, and energy management initiatives.

  • Monitor utility consumption and identify opportunities for energy conservation and cost reduction.

  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and replacement parts.


Qualifications



Required



  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial building maintenance, facilities management, or a related field.

  • Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building automation systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

  • Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks, including climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.


Preferred



  • Associate degree or technical certification in Engineering, Facilities Management, HVAC, Electrical Technology, or related field.

  • Universal EPA Certification.

  • Stationary Engineer, Building Operator Certification (BOC), or similar industry credential.

  • Experience with commercial office, healthcare, industrial, or multi-tenant facilities.

  • Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices.
