Established in 1996, NOVA was originally founded to provide Environmental Consulting, Geotechnical Engineering, and Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services to the design and construction community, largely in the southeastern United States. NOVA Engineering & Environmental, is seeking a Building Envelope Consultant in Tallahassee, FL. The employee will be providing quality control testing and inspection duties for commercial, retail, educational, multi-family, low to high-rise and manufacturing type structures for the public and private sectors. Successful candidates will have some field experience or a strong desire to work onsite and understanding of various construction types with an emphasis on roofing and building enclosure components. The employee must demonstrate an interest in the building envelope field and have the knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn standards within the construction industry. Much work is performed unsupervised (i.e. employee is in the field as the Company’s representative) but under the direction of a Professional Engineer or Project Manager.

Primary duties will include:

  • Perform field testing of roofing, waterproofing, windows, curtainwall systems, and other building components in accordance with various ASTM, AAMA, and ANSI standards.
  • Perform forensic evaluations and investigations on building enclosure components.
  • Perform construction administration services and quality assurance site inspections related to building enclosure components to verify conformance with construction documents, manufacturer, and industry standards.
  • Review construction documents including architectural drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings relative to the building enclosure.
  • Writing of technical reports documenting testing performed and observations.
  • Produce building envelope design documents (i.e. drawings and specifications).
  • Some in-state overnight travel may be required and occasional out of state overnight travel. The position will be predominately field located.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor of Engineering/Construction Management or similar, or comparable experience
  • 2-8 years of experience.
  • Technical knowledge of building construction.
  • Technically competent in effectively communicating with others (both orally and written).
  • Ability to solve minor or complex problems using logic, judgement, and problem-solving.
  • Ability to read and understanding plans and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid State Driver’s license with clean driving record.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with building enclosure systems such as wall claddings, windows, curtain wall systems, roofs and waterproofing.
  • Ability to work in and review work in AutoCAD or Revit.
  • Certified in operation of boom lifts or willingness to become certified.
