Job Description - Building Inspector/Plans Examiner
The Village is currently accepting applications for a Building Inspector/Plans Examiner to carry out technical plan reviews and field inspection of new construction and remodeling projects at residential and non-residential properties, ensuring compliance with Florida Building Codes, Referenced National Standards, and Village Ordinances; Performs duties of Code Enforcement Officer providing enforcement of the Village Ordinances.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Position Reports to: Building Director/Building Official

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs on-site inspections of residential and commercial buildings, including remodeling/construction work, premises, and building systems; footings, foundations, framing, swimming pools, trusses, insulation, drywall, etc.; inspects construction methods and material.
Enforces compliance with the Florida Building Code, pertaining to building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, fire prevention, life/safety, energy, handicapped accessibility codes, and other applicable federal, state and local codes, laws, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures.
Performs technical plan review of building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems of residential and commercial buildings; reviews construction methods and material
Verifies proper permitting of construction work and contractor licensure; determines if work is being performed by properly licensed individuals who possess valid permits
Maintains records of building inspection activity and plans review comments; completes related reports, accesses and enters data into computers and/or handheld tablet in field,
Performs duties as a Code Enforcement Officer conducting investigative, technical, and administrative work in the enforcement of the Village Ordinances; inspects existing buildings for improper use.
Investigates and responds to complaints to determine if a code violation exists and issues notice of required action to abate the violation; attends hearings of the Special Magistrate.
Provides information and technical assistance to citizens and provides technical expertise to other employees

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs general office tasks which may include answering telephone calls, typing data into computer and copying documents
Perform other related duties and assumes other responsibilities as necessary or as delegated.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE Education, Experience, Licensing & Certification
High School Diploma or GED
College degree; technical certificate; or technical instruction in building technology inspections or plan review
Minimum five years of experience in construction, construction management, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or building construction preferred
State of Florida Standard Inspector License, or ability to attain within one (1) year
State of Florida Standard Plan Examiner License, or ability to attain within one (1) year
State of Florida Certified Fire Inspector, or ability to attain within one (1) year preferred
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the Florida Building Code, referenced Standards, and general construction
Ability to interpret maps, plans, engineering drawings and architectural renderings
Knowledge of Microsoft software with ability to enter inspection and plan review data
Ability to establish effective working relationships with contractors, developers, owners, architects, engineers, supervisors, employees, elected officials
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Works in office environment with frequent need to work in outside weather conditions The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
