Bus Driver - Park District Wide

Lorain County Metro Parks seeks a licensed bus driver for the Park’s Senior Bus Tours. Tours will be offered seasonally to seniors. Tours will consist of up to 24 passengers and require a 5-hour shift (on average) for the driver.

Bus drivers will be responsible for safely transporting passengers to different park locations throughout the county. The driver should exhibit knowledge of county roadways and be willing to share scripted details regarding park stops. This position will serve an essential role in the outreach efforts of Lorain County Metro Parks. Candidates should be outgoing, responsible, and passionate about working with senior citizens, including those with disabilities. This position is under the direction of the Public Information Officer.

RATE OF PAY: $18 to $25 per hour, commensurate with the employee's experience.

HOURS: Up to 28 hours per week.

• Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B, with Passenger (P) Endorsement.
• Experience working with senior citizens preferred.
• Exhibits a positive image, friendly demeanor, and an inclusive attitude as a Lorain County Metro Parks representative.
• Drive specified tour routes or to specified destinations according to itineraries, complying with traffic regulations to ensure passengers have a safe and enjoyable ride.
• Complete safe passenger loading and unloading procedures, including the operation of a wheelchair lift.
• Maintain and enforce safe riding policies for all passengers.
• Assist passengers, such as elderly or disabled individuals, on and off the bus, ensure they are correctly seated, and answer questions about the Lorain County Metro Parks.
• Remains alert and exercises good judgment concerning emergencies, abnormal driving conditions, and disabled vehicles.
• Conducts a thorough pre-trip inspection of the bus before every trip.
• Fills fuel tank as necessary and promptly notifies Fleet Supervisor of necessary repairs.
• Cleans interior (sweep, trash, etc.) daily upon the end of shift.
• Maintains a good rapport with all passengers, other drivers, supervisors, and office personnel.
• Complies with all policies and procedures of the Lorain County Metro Parks.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and be insurable by the park district’s insurance carrier. New employees must undergo a background check and fingerprint. Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who use tobacco. Bus drivers and tour guides are prohibited from accepting gratuities or gifts.
