Schedule: Monday-Friday 

Job Summary 

D.C. Goodman & Sons is seeking a Business Development & Estimating Manager to bridge winning work and pricing it accurately across our commercial HVAC, plumbing, and electrical projects. This hybrid role combines client relationship-building with hands-on estimating, requiring someone who can speak credibly with engineers and clients while building competitive, profitable bids on complex, multi-trade commercial work. 

Key Responsibilities 

Business Development: 

• Identify and pursue new commercial/institutional project opportunities (hospitals, schools, industrial and municipal clients) 

• Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients (e.g., J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, Juniata College, Mutual Benefit Group) 

• Network with GCs, architects, and engineers who influence subcontractor selection 

• Attend industry events, pre-bid meetings, and local trade association functions 

• Track upcoming public and private project bids in the region 

• Represent the company in early client conversations and proposal presentations 

Estimating: 

• Review project drawings and specs to perform takeoffs across HVAC, plumbing, and electrical scopes 

• Solicit and evaluate vendor/supplier pricing on materials and equipment 

• Build complete bid packages, including labor hours, material costs, overhead, and margin 

• Submit bids and proposals within client/GC deadlines 

• Follow up on submitted bids, clarify scope questions, and adjust pricing as needed 

• Hand off awarded jobs to project managers/foremen with clear scope and budget 

• Track win/loss rates and adjust bidding strategy over time 

Qualifications 

Required: 

• 5-10+ years of combined experience in construction trades, estimating, and/or business development 

• Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems 

• Ability to read blueprints, specs, and construction documents across multiple trades 

• Sales or relationship-building experience in a construction/contracting context 

• Financial literacy — labor rates, material costs, overhead, and margin 

• Proficiency with estimating software and takeoff tools (e.g., Bluebeam, FastPIPE/FastDUCT, Accubid, or similar) 

• Valid driver's license 
  

Preferred: 

• Prior experience in both estimating and business development 


• Existing relationships with GCs, architects, and facility owners in the Huntingdon/central PA market 

• Degree or background in construction management, engineering, or a related field
