Position Summary

This role supports the firm’s global Life Sciences Health Industry (LSHI) group, which is largely U.S. based, with attorneys or affiliate members in many offices in Europe and Asia.

The Business Development (BD) Coordinator will handle marketing administrative tasks, help implement the business development tactics for the LSHI group and related practice teams/task forces, and support other firmwide marketing and business development initiatives, as needed.

This professional will also serve as the dedicated LSHI BD resource for a niche group of lawyers under the LSHI umbrella, with a specific focus on promoting client successes internally, and assisting with external brand awareness, including awards submissions, conference speaking engagements, and client alerts. In particular, this person will work closely with a Chicago-based team widely regarded as a leader in the compounding sector, representing coalitions of compounding pharmacies and outsourcing facilities to challenge FDA, state regulators, or other regulatory bodies on critical issues defining the industry.

This professional will handle pitches and proposals, bio updates, the coordination of events, webinars, and sponsorships, social media promotion, and other marketing and internal communications. This position will also be responsible for administrative needs. He/she will coordinate requests for client/prospect research, business intelligence, and graphic design from relevant teams, and significantly support the BD responsibilities associated with firm awards submissions such as Chambers, Legal 500 and LMG Life Sciences.

Essential Functions

Develop and maintain well-rounded understanding of Life Sciences Health Industry (LSHI) lawyers and LSHI-related sub-practice areas (e.g., product liability, FDA, transactions, etc.).
Support the LSHI Business Development Team in various projects as they relate to business development efforts associated with the LSHI Group.
Promote the FDA Compounding pharmacy team internally and externally, maximing the opportunities to raise the profile of the group and generate more work. This includes using appropriate external media and social media channels to raise the profile of key lawyers and partners
Assist with pitch materials, presentations and responses to Requests for Proposals (RFPs); assist attorneys with presentation preparation by assisting with creating and editing materials, and be instrumental in delivering a strong first version document for the partners.
Assist LSHI attorneys with business development activities; maintain strong working relationships and a high level of day-to-day interaction with lawyers in LSHI as well as attorneys in related practice groups.
Edit marketing collateral, including practice area descriptions and attorney biographies for print, website and intranet; facilitate posting updates to firm website and intranet as required.
Work with the LSHI group and related practice teams/task forces to help prepare and edit drafts of various industry survey and directory submissions, plus maintain repositories of information on practice group accolades and awards.
Assist in coordination of Reed Smith’s participation in, and sponsorship of, local and national conferences. Responsibilities would include handling attorney reservations or RSVPs, and coordinating and submitting advertisements, giveaways, logos, check requests, and other materials as needed for sponsorships and other external activities .
Assist in coordinating Reed Smith-hosted client seminars and events. Responsibilities would include development of invitations and invite lists, coordinating with venues on logistics, coordinating speaker calls, and assisting with event materials, event promotion, and day-of event needs.
Collect and maintain attorney experience and client information in Firmwide experience databases and client relationship management (CRM) system.
Work closely with LSHI attorneys to draft, edit and coordinate posts for the LSHI LinkedIn Showcase page.
Assist with the development of group and strategy meeting agendas and presentations, and prepare and circulate meeting summaries.
Help maintain industry group/specialty group intranet sites.
All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education: College degree in Marketing, Business, Communications or related field desirable, but not required.

Experience: Prior work or intern experience with transferable skills preferred. The candidate must be able to demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills, strong writing ability, a positive attitude, and great work ethic. Must have demonstrated experience working independently as well as within cross-functional teams in a collaborative, professional environment.

Skills

Be a good team player, with a positive attitude, and willingness to learn
Able to collaborate with virtual teams and manage work that is generated and required in different time zones.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Social media platforms and CRM a plus.
Technologically savvy and able to quickly learn new database systems.
Extremely resourceful, detail oriented, proactive and self-directed with ability to independently manage and appropriately prioritize multiple projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines, sometimes with minimal oversight.
Able to demonstrate sound professional judgment and a high degree of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts.
Comfortable establishing effective firmwide working relationships with individuals at all levels.
Possess, and be willing to continue to develop, strong organizational, project management and problem solving skills.
Able to work independently as well as part of a team, and be flexible in approach.
Interest in reading legal, economic and marketing press.
Interest in providing administrative support to team to help manage myriad tasks and deadlines.

Equipment To Be Used: Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, fax, machine, copier, scanner, etc.

Typical Physical Demands: Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment.

Typical Mental Demands: Able to work effectively in a fast paced environment. Make judgment decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas. Communicate with various personalities at all levels.

Working Conditions: You will be required to work in the office at minimum 3 days per week. The details of your weekly schedule will be discussed further with your direct supervisor.
