Job Description - Business Development Lead

Ecotech Solar is looking for a mission-aligned, results-driven professional with an entrepreneurial mindset and the agility to adapt their approach to whatever drives results, whether that means converting inbound leads, generating outbound demand, or creating new market opportunities from scratch.



This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, takes ownership of outcomes, and changes their style to win. You bring a unique ability to influence outcomes through both compelling storytelling and sharp business analysis. You're comfortable building business cases and shaping energy strategies that align with mission goals, whether speaking to community stakeholders or C-suite decision-makers.



With strategic vision, data fluency, and the drive to build what doesn’t yet exist, you'll lead these longer sales cycles from concept to close. Target markets include businesses, municipalities, counties, tribal nations, utilities, non-profits, faith-based organizations, referring subcontractors, etc. We view these customers as long-term partners, not one-time clients—providing ongoing service and support well beyond the initial project completion. 



This is a hybrid role based out of our Bellingham, WA office with regular travel throughout Whatcom, Skagit, Island, San Juan, and Snohomish counties in a company-provided vehicle. Occasional travel outside of these areas may be required depending on project needs and opportunities.

We are a values-driven business that designs and installs solar electric systems for homes, businesses, and civic organizations in northwest Washington State. Since our founding in 2004 as the first solar contractor in Whatcom County, we have successfully completed over 1,800 solar projects, become an industry leader in the state, joined the member-owned Amicus solar co-operative, and built lasting connections in our community. RESPONSIBILITIES


Know the solar market. Earn the role of trusted advisor to leaders, decision makers, and community members by keeping up-to-date on the solutions we offer, our industry, current incentives and policies, and the competitive landscape. 



Know your audience. Whether you’re talking with a rural dairy farmer, the board of directors of a non-profit org, or C-level leaders of a local manufacturing facility, you exude curiosity and confidence, ask the right questions, listen well, and demonstrate understanding of their needs and objectives. Use this information to develop and present compelling solutions that are tailored to their goals.


Manage all aspects of the sales lifecycle to drive results and build lasting partnerships. This role includes networking, prospecting, qualifying, site evaluations, estimating, proposal creation & presentation, working through questions & barriers, contracting, and post-install system orientations. Achieving performance results is essential. Earn referrals and long-term relationships.



Take exceptionally good care of people. Draw people in by being a good neighbor: to your customers, your community, and your co-workers at Ecotech. Make the person in front of you feel seen, heard, and cared for. 



WHAT YOU BRING


Experience. 3+ years experience & proven track record of success in sales/business development. Prior experience in renewables, energy services, or the building trades is desired but not required. B2B experience preferred.



Commitment to community and network builderWe’re looking for someone who knows what it is to belong to a place and community, and helps create them as well. Tell us how you’ve integrated and built community. Existing connections with non-profits, tribes, local governments, networking groups, business owners, or community leaders are a plus. The ability to quickly build these relationships is essential.



Entrepreneurial spirit. High levels of self-motivation, organization, an ability to strategize, prioritize, set a pace, and focus. You’ll be supported by a team of seasoned professionals - project managers, technical experts with 20+ years in the industry, and the best install crew in the business -  that will build on your strengths to do great things together.



Sharp analytical & communication skills. You can think through complex, dynamic problems and clearly communicate their solutions in the manner that’s right for your audience.



* This role requires the ability to safely move around construction sites, get on roofs, and occasionally climb, manage, and lift ladders up to 30lbs.

-OTE in year one: $90–120k+, with uncapped earning potential beyond.


Compensation begins with a higher base salary plus commission draw during the initial ramp-up period, transitioning to a performance-driven model with a lower base and higher commission potential.
