Basic Purpose of the Position:

Responsible for verifying, buying, and managing material requirements for production. This role is also

responsible for keeping management abreast of market trends, changes in vendor business practice, and alternatives available in the market. 

 

Major Areas of Responsibility: 


  • Verifies manufacturing requirements and creates stocking strategies for inputs.

  • Serves as a liaison between Materials & Production concerning materials and production processes.

  • Work closely with the Production Control department to identify deficiencies in requirements and amend planning prior to production. 

  • Provides purchasing planning and inventory control information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data trends.

  • Support Materials team initiatives as defined by plant manager.

  • Negotiates the pricing level of locally sourced items.

  • Prepares purchase orders by verifying specifications and price; forwards orders to vendors/suppliers; monitors and expedites orders.

  • Verifies receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolves any errors with supplier; forwards receiving documentation for payment.

  • Works closely with custom engineering groups to serve as a liaison between engineers, drafters, and external suppliers.

  • Utilize Quality Control systems to report NCR’s and conduct Root Cause Analysis.


 

Position Challenges & Latitude:


  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize commitments, manage time effectively and work independently to meet time sensitive deadlines.

  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected as this role performs a wide variety of complicated tasks. 

  • Must be detailed oriented, possess excellent organizational skills and can work independently with a minimal level of supervision.

  • Complete understanding of production process and equipment application.

  • Work habits must simultaneously embrace the concept of speed and quality.


 

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience:


  • High school diploma/GED required.  Bachelor’s degree in supply chain discipline preferred.

  • A minimum of 4 years’ work experience as a Buyer/Planner with proven ability to learn new skills and responsibilities. 

  • Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

  • The ability to multi-task, prioritize commitments, manage time effectively and work independently to meet time sensitive deadlines.

  • Must be detailed oriented, possess excellent organizational skills and can work independently with a minimal level of supervision.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ERP systems (Sage100, SAP, Oracle, etc.)


 

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:


  • Based in office with routine visits to production floor 

  • Day shift, Monday through Friday
