Summary
A Cable Splicer performs the construction and maintenance of underground distribution lines and equipment in a strictly safe and efficient manner. Operating under the direction of senior personnel and supervisors, this role requires the ability to follow precise instructions and adhere to rigorous safety protocols.
Job Attributes and Responsibilities
Executes work on or near conductors and equipment energized at distribution voltages.
Works within manholes, vaults, and on ladders or aerial devices using approved techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Operates line sectionalizing switches, performs switching on high and low-voltage equipment, and monitors transformer loads and voltages.
Patrols distribution lines to identify faults and perform necessary repairs.
Accurately prepares and processes all required documentation, forms, and reports.
Ensures all tasks are completed in accordance with company standards, regulatory mandates, and safety requirements.
Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment resulting in minimal down time.
Responsible for the safety of other employees, the public, and for his/ her personal safety at all times.
Expected to participate in the local safety programs.
Expected to be a positive team player, treat others with respect, and shall abide by the Code of Conduct at all times.
Skills
Proficient communication skills.
Knowledgeable and proficient using network protectors, arc whippers, electricity operated gear (EOG), and automatic throw over devices (ATO).
Proficient with cable pulling and reeling equipment.
Proficient in manhole, bucket truck and vault rescue.
Able to splice and terminate pulling conductor paper insulated led cables (PILC) and other types of cables.
Able to take measurements to fabricate copper bus and steel supports.
Education and Experience
High School diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
Class A Driver's License with CDL endorsement is required.
Able to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions during both normal and extended working hours is required.
Available for a regular call out schedule and available in other emergency situations when needed, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week is required.
Able to respond to emergency call outs within 1 hour from being called is required.
Physically able to lift 75 pounds is required.
Attending the Distribution Cable Splicing Training which will be provided to the successful candidate is required for progression in the position.
Commitment to learn and abide by the Safety handbook is required
In addition to the requirements above, the successful candidate will also need experience and working knowledge of the following to be placed in a higher progression level: Network System, Network Protectors, Vacuum Switches, PILC (pulling conductor paper insulated led cable), other various rubber/plastic cables, Fabrication of Bus, and Underground Transformers.
The successful candidate is required to pass an FBI background check in order to receive a DFW Airport Security Clearance.
