Job Description - CAD Drafter

JM Electronic Engineering Inc. is rapidly growing and seeking a meticulous and skilled CAD Operator / Drafter to join our team in Pflugerville, TX!


As a leader in commercial life safety and low voltage systems (Fire Alarms, Access Control, Nurse Call), we require precise and code-compliant drawings. You will be instrumental in translating our design concepts and field installations into professional, accurate technical documentation.



What You'll Do (Responsibilities):




  • System Drafting: Prepare, modify, and finalize detailed construction drawings and technical schematics for Fire Alarm Systems and other low voltage projects (Access Control, Nurse Call, CCTV).

  • Code Compliance: Ensure all drawings and layouts adhere strictly to local and national codes and standards, including NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code).

  • Design Support: Work closely with our experienced Project Managers and Engineers to develop accurate floor plans, device layouts, wiring diagrams, riser diagrams, and system block diagrams.

  • As-Built Documentation: Produce "as-built" drawings based on field mark-ups and technician notes to reflect the final installed system configuration.

  • Document Management: Maintain an organized system for filing, version control, and distributing all project drawings and related documentation.



What Makes You a Great Fit (Qualifications):




  • Experience: Proven experience (minimum 2 years preferred) in a CAD Operator or Drafter role, ideally within the fire protection, electrical, or low voltage industry.

  • Technical Proficiency: Expert level proficiency with AutoCAD is required. Familiarity with Revit or other design software is a plus.

  • Knowledge Base: Strong understanding of architectural drawings, symbols, and scaling. Knowledge of NFPA 72 standards is a significant asset.

  • Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail with a dedication to producing high-quality, error-free drawings.

  • Collaboration: Ability to read, interpret, and communicate effectively with field technicians and project management staff.
