LITTLE RIVER BAND OF OTTAWA INDIANS
POSITION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT



POSITIONCafeteria Worker – Family Services - PART TIME



Pay Grade: NE3 Hiring Range - $16.71 – $19.01 - $21.30 - Commensurate with Verified Qualifications 
Status: Non-Exempt/Bi-weekly pay                      Background Check: Extensive 



Indian Preference is applicable in accordance with Ordinance #15-600-02



SUMMARY: 


The position is responsible for preparing and serving food and maintaining a safe and sanitary environment under the Title VI Elders program.



EMPLOYMENT QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS



  • High School Diploma or GED; and

  • Six months experience of cooking and food preparation in a restaurant or cafeteria setting; and

  • SERV Safe Food Handler certification or must obtain within 90 days of employment.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Prepares food items according to recipes and established food preparation procedures.

  2. Serves appropriate amount of food following guidelines established to meet the nutritional needs of the Elders.

  3. Evaluates food for taste, appearance, and temperature.

  4. Performs set up and tear down of food and beverage stations.

  5. Provides friendly and professional customer service to customers, service departments, vendors, and outside agencies.

  6. Assists with inventories of food and supplies, informing supervisor of needs to ensure availability.

  7. Receives food items and supplies, stocking and organizing in designated areas with attention to proper rotation and storage guidelines.

  8. Cleans kitchen, equipment, serving dishes and utensils, and dining area; continually monitors throughout food service.

  9. Collaboratively plan with program coordinator the classes to be presented for Post Covid Environment – Preparedness, Safety Protocols, and other dealing with food safety/nutrition/cooking.

  10. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of work.

  11. All other position/department related duties as assigned by supervisor.

During the course of employment, the employee will consistently utilize and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, strong interpersonal and teamwork skills, the ability to work cooperatively with other departments, and a commitment to confidentiality.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None



PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Standing and walking for long periods of time, with the ability to exert fast-paced mobility for periods in excess of four (4) hours, frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, or stretching is to be expected. The nature of the work also involves the use of knives, ovens, cook tops, broilers, walk-in coolers, cleaning chemicals, and power food processing equipment, resulting in exposure to high heat, sudden cold, and the potential for cuts and burns. The employee shall expect to wear protective clothing such as rubber gloves, hair nets, non-skid closed toe shoes, and aprons. The employee will need the manual dexterity to operate kitchen equipment, knives and utensils. An employee will routinely carry work-related materials up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift up to fifty (50) pounds. An employee will need normal or corrected to normal range of sight and hearing.



WORKING ENVIRONMENT:


Work is performed in a kitchen environment that may range from hot and humid, to cool and dry. The employee’s work schedule may periodically need to be flexible and adjusted according to business need. The employee must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional, as well as be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Occasional overnight or local travel will be necessary to attend meetings or trainings.
