Job Description - Call Center Nurse RN (Telephonic Triage / School Health)

Summary



Provide nurse‑led telephonic triage, clinical guidance, and case coordination for parents, campus staff, and students. Triage symptoms, provide evidence‑based advice, and coordinate follow‑up with campus nurses or emergency services as needed.



Job Overview
We are seeking a clinical RN with strong telephone triage experience to staff CFISD’s school health call center. This role supports campus operations by assessing student health concerns remotely, documenting interactions, and directing appropriate next steps. The ideal candidate demonstrates excellent communication, sound clinical judgment, and proficiency with electronic documentation systems.



Responsibilities



  • Receive and triage calls regarding student illness/injury using district protocols and triage algorithms.

  • Provide clear nursing guidance to parents, caregivers, and campus staff; recommend next steps (stay home, see PCP, urgent care, EMS).

  • Document all calls in the district-required format and maintain accurate call logs.

  • Coordinate follow-up with campus nurses and Health Services administration.

  • Assist with communicable disease screening, return‑to‑school guidance, and public health notifications.

  • Participate in QA reviews, protocol updates, and staff training as assigned.



Typical schedule/setting:
Remote or onsite call center shifts during school hours; may include scheduled call blocks and occasional after‑hours support depending on district needs.



Supervision/reporting:
Reports to CFISD Health Services lead or call center manager; collaborates with campus nursing team.



Documentation & compliance:
Strict adherence to FERPA/HIPAA; accurate electronic documentation; maintain current certifications and background checks.



Requirements:



  • Active Texas RN license (TBON) — district may require RN licensure even for remote roles.

  • Minimum 1–2 years clinical experience; telephone triage, telehealth, pediatric, or public health experience preferred.

  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

  • Strong verbal communication, clinical triage judgment, and documentation skills.

  • Proficiency with EHRs, call center software, and remote documentation tools.

  • Ability to pass Texas fingerprint criminal background check and complete TEA pre‑service affidavit (SB571) if required to access schools.

  • Reliable internet connection and private workspace for remote shifts (if remote).



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with telephone triage protocols or nurse advice lines.

  • Familiarity with school health policies and communicable disease management.
