JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Camp Host serves as the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (GSWCF) representative and main contact at a designated camp property during an assigned period, usually during the day on a weekend, and provides support to other volunteers in welcoming them to camp and supporting engagement of girls in outdoor program activities. This position ensures that all visitors and campers are greeted with professionalism and courtesy, and all adhere to camp rules and policies at all times while on grounds. The Camp Host is part of a team of Camp Hosts and other program staff that provide rotating weekend coverage.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Welcome troops and members to the camp property and provide support to ensure a positive camp experience.
• Ensure certified facilitators with program area reservations have access to the equipment needed and that they return that equipment after the activity in good condition.
• Offer coaching or program support to troops or encampments if needed.
• Serve as first point of contact in case of problem or emergency among troops or members at the property.
• Contact Outdoor Program Manager or Ranger if staff support is needed.
• Promote any upcoming events happening at that property among camp attendees.
• Provide rented or requested equipment to troops, ensuring quality control of inventory that is distributed and collected.
• Ensure end of day reports and tasks are complete to ensure accurate data collection and spaces are ready for future use
• Assist in facilitating Outdoor Program events or performing small facilities maintenance tasks as needed

Success Tactics & Tools

• Familiarity with and passion for GSWCF outdoor programs and camp properties!
• Skilled at providing customer service, coordinating communication and managing multiple tasks at once.
• Ability to move around a camp property to meet with and support members.
• Personal commitment to council policies, such as Volunteer Essentials, Safety Activity Checkpoints, GSWCF protocols.
• Influence the ability and engagement of volunteers by oversight or participation in their on-site coaching.
• Contribute to a thriving work environment by demonstrating the GSWCF Guiding Principles.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Available to work Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with additional hours on Friday evenings, Saturday evenings, and Sunday afternoons available during weekends of peak usage.
• Pride in achieving personal and team goals.
• Motivated by the Girl Scout mission. 
• Engaging communication style, verbal and written. It would be great if you speak Spanish as well.
• Reliable transportation along with documentation of required automobile insurance and safe driving record when driving on behalf of the council or operating a council vehicle on property.
• To successfully perform the essential functions of this role, with our without accommodation, a person must be able to utilize basic office equipment including computers and phones. Interact with others in-person in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings. Additional physical include prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to utilize camp equipment; requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; comfort working in a camp setting with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, horses etc.

• The Camp Host receives support, guidance, and encouragement from the Outdoor Program Manager (OPM), Camp Ranger (Ranger) and the GSWCF Program & Partnerships Team.
• Training on guest services, outdoor skills, and CPR/First Aid
• Opportunity to reside onsite in temporary housing on Friday and Saturday nights to alleviate commuting needs.
