Job Title: Junior Counselor

FLSA Status: Seasonal June- August

Pay Rate: Stipend: $300-350-week (Sun-Fri) Room and Board Provided (4-week time commitment)

Reports to: Director of Camping and Outdoor Education Revision Date: 11-1-2023

POSITION SUMMARY: Learn more than you ever thought you could about relating to children in a manner that empowers their growth and independence. We’re looking for Junior Counselors to serve as mentors for approximately 8-12 campers. JC’s will also serve as activity instructors upon gaining experience. Tell us which ones you’re most passionate about and we will pair you with an experienced counselor to mentor you throughout the summer. All JC’s will have a cabin to stay in and provide support to all counselors and campers alike.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Must Be 17 or older

2. Serve as a mentor to campers

3. Co- lead activities with counselors and specialist

4. Provide direct supervision to youth 

5. All other duties as assigned by the director 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Passion, enthusiasm, and commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA.

2. This position requires a good attitude and willingness to learn 

3. Have or willing to obtain First Aid, CPR, or Lifeguard or ropes

4. Willingness to have fun, laugh, and be silly with a love of the outdoors

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Must be able to provide a physical exam by a medical provider

2. Must be able to see, hear, and speak clearly.

3. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

4. Must be in good health, able to bend, stand, stoop, walk, climb and work outside in all terrain and weather conditions for extended periods of time. 

5. Must be able to comprehend and communicate written and or verbal instructions.

6. Comfortable working at heights and around water.
