Paws With A Cause® (PAWS) is looking to hire a Canine Welfare & Kennel Care Team Lead to join our organization! This position will be responsible for monitoring and maintaining the high standards of health and welfare care for the dogs in our Purposeful Placements Department! The ideal candidate will love both dogs and people, be friendly, willing to adapt, a hard worker, and a strong team leader! This is a 40 hour per week, Monday-Friday, hourly position. Starting range is $16.50-$18.00. Position Summary

The Canine Welfare and Kennel Supervisor oversees the canine care staff, dogs, kennels, and the Building B facility and grounds. This position ensures the health, welfare, and care of the dogs in Building B, manages kennel movement and administration, and supports volunteers in Building B. The position ensures compliance with all relevant ADI and AASI standards. This position is a working position and is actively involved with daily operations, including canine care and kennel maintenance. 

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for schedule coverage of both shifts and committees as the canine care team lead and supervisor in Building B;   
  2. Actively demonstrate PAWS values 
  3. Health, welfare, and care of dogs in Building B Kennels. 
  4. Cleaning, maintenance of kennels, facilities, and grounds of Building B. 
  5. Oversee and Manage movement in and out of Building B Kennels 
  6. Develop & Implement enrichment and exercise programs for dogs in Building B 
  7. Represent Building B, or delegate to appropriate team member (s), at interdepartmental communications and act as department liaison with other organizational departments  
  8. Coordinate, or delegate to appropriate team member (s), with vet department for medical needs for dogs in Building B 
  9. Other duties as assigned 

Non-Essential Responsibilities

  1. Support pet matching and placements as needed 
  2. Support foster puppy intake as needed 
  3. Assist and support prison dog transfers and movements 
  4. Supports volunteers in Building B kennels and canine enrichment 

Supervision Received

  • General Direction: Work from company policies and general objectives. Rarely refer to superior, only for clarification and interpretation of company policy.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED equivalent 
  2. 3-5 years experience handling dogs in kennel environments
  3. Possess a valid driver’s license 

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds  
  2. Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills 
  3. Strong oral and verbal communication skills 
  4. Strong problem-solving skills 
  5. Basic dog training skills preferred 
  6. Great customer service skills and the ability to lead a team 
  7. Must be willing to be a “working” Team Lead
