JOB OVERVIEW

• Job Title: Cardiothoracic Surgeon

• Clinical Shift Schedule: Rounding in the morning (2–4 hours depending on surgical load)

• On-Call Shift Schedule: 24hr call (7a–7a) or 12hr night call (7p–7a)

• Call Type: Beeper (30-minute response)

• Call Ratio: 1:1

• Call Response Time: 30 minutes

• 12/26/2025 – 01/05/2026

PATIENT INFORMATION

• Patient Demographics: Adults (100%)

• Patient Volume/Census: Average 1–3 cases/day or ~133 per year

• Admissions: Average 1–3 while on call

• Rounding: Included, typically 2–4 hours daily with PA support

• Phone Consults: Yes (PA screens and consults physician as needed)

• Case Mix: Open heart, carotid, and possible lung cases

FACILITY INFORMATION

• Trauma Level: Level III

• EMR System: Meditech

• Specialty Backup Available: APP/Mid-level coverage (PAs perform EVH, handle consults and calls)

• Support Staff Available: Physician Assistants

• Reason for Coverage: Turnover vacancy

PRIVILEGES & COMPLIANCE

• Hospital Privileges Required: Yes

• Temporary Privileges Available: Yes

• Credentialing Timeline: ~30 days

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Travel, Lodging, and Malpractice Insurance: Covered

• Rate: -24-hr On Call flat rate of $5000; 12-hr Nightly On Call flat rate of $3,000

REQUIRED PROCEDURES

• Bypass Surgery

• Open Heart Surgery

• Carotid Procedures

• Lung Cases (possible)

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Licenses: Active Maryland license (IMLC considered)

• Board: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiac or both Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery

• DEA: Active DEA Certification required

• Certifications: None specified

• Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty

• Other Qualifications: CSR license required

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide cardiothoracic surgical coverage with emphasis on bypass surgery

• Round with PA in the morning and address any clinical needs

• Remain available for urgent and emergent procedures with 30-minute response time

• Supervise and collaborate with APPs handling consults and calls

• Perform open heart, carotid, and select lung cases

• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Meditech EMR
