Care Assistant/Day & Night Support

PURPOSE OF POSITION

· To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the privacy and dignity of the individual and promotes independence.

· To be flexible in supporting day or night senior care provision where and when there is a need, thus ensuring safe levels of staff and skills mix at all times.

· To help in the care of the residents’ physical environment and in the general day-to-day activities of the home.

· To take delegated responsibilities of the wellbeing of residents under your care, at the level of your qualifications and experience. Leading junior staff by example in the care of residents.

· Have quarterly supervisions and annual appraisals from Home Manager.

Requirements

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Assist residents who need help with dressing, undressing, bathing and personal care.

· Help residents with mobility problems and other physical impairments such as incontinence and in the use and care of aids and personal equipment.

· Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of residents through talking to them, taking them out, and sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.

· Be aware of and monitor residents’ health, safety and well-being, reporting any changes immediately to a Team Leader or Manager.

· Make and change beds; tidy rooms remove any dirty laundry.

· Maintain residents’ dignity by ensuring they wear personal clothing of their choice

· Assist clients at mealtimes either in dining room or in personal rooms.

· Assist in the kitchen with washing and drying of utensils, crockery and cutlery when required.

· Answer emergency bells within 6 rings.

· Greet visitors and advise they log their entry on to the electronic system.

· Complete care records and risk assessments as appropriate on the Personal Care Software (PCS).

PERSON SPECIFICATION – ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

· Hold a minimum of NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 3 and have proven experience at that level.

· Be in possession of a current Medication Administration Qualification.

· Be an effective communicator and have a good command of spoken and written English.

· Caring and sensitive to the needs of others.

· Able to take responsibility and be a team player but also able to work on own initiative.

· Committed to high standards.

· Committed to training and personal development.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, there may be a requirement to perform other duties assigned by the Management Team from time to time. However, such duties will be reasonable and at the level of your abilities.
