FLSA Status:           Non- Exempt 

Location:                Portland, OR

Compensation:     $26.30 per hour

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Latino Network seeks a bilingual, bi-cultural, mission-driven professional with proven nonprofit and community experience to lead a full range of activities for a growing organization. As part of a dedicated Economic Justice team at Latino Network, the Career Coach will work in concert with the Multnomah Stability initiative (MSI) team, Mobile Housing Team (MHT) and community partners to support program participants seeking career track employment.  The Career Coach will take a strengths-based, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive approach to develop a thorough and collaborative plan to address participants’ barriers to employment.

POSITION SUMMARY 

Latino Network’s Career Coach will assist families to maintain benefits while helping them to engage in training and occupational coaching towards the goal of career-track employment in targeted industries through WorkSource Portland Metro and other programs. The Career Coach will work collaboratively with clients to develop a career plan, provide long-term, individualized coaching and guidance, and build positive relationships and trust with clients and community partners in order to support training and employment goals.

This position requires consistent contact with clients, data entry into multiple databases, including Efforts to Outcomes and I-Trac, and regular communication with Latino Network staff, WorkSource Portland Metro, and community partners.  Other requirements include excellent follow through, attention to detail, professional writing skills, excellent time management and communication through in-person meetings, phone and email, and excellent verbal and written communication in Spanish and English.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Conduct outreach, intake, and needs assessment.
  • Screen for eligibility and completion of all enrollment criteria.
  • Facilitate job-readiness activities, including 1:1 coaching, resume building, job exploration, and placement. 
  • Facilitate professional development workshops and activities in collaboration with other programs and departments.
  • Partners with WorkSource Portland Metro programs and professional development resources.
  • Advocate and negotiate with government agencies and other community partners on behalf of clients.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, co-workers, and community partners.
  • Engage in client-centered, collaborative career mapping and planning.
  • Ensure the career plan identifies and addresses client strengths, capacities, and potential barriers with respect to employment.
  • Provide ongoing support for clients through career and life skills coaching.
  • Provide ongoing job search and placement support.
  • Provide retention and advancement support once the client has entered employment.
  • Maintain knowledge of, and connect clients to, vocational and education services available for families, particularly Latino families.
  • Maintain knowledge of services and resources to address housing stability.
  • Participate in regular collaborative meetings, team meetings, and supervision meetings.
  • Adhere to documentation requirements as indicated in Latino Network and WorkSource Portland Metro policies.
  • Model and encourage direct, professional communication.
  • Maintain organized client records and follow the client file documentation requirements.
  • Data entry into Latino Network case management software as well as the I-Trac database.
  • Ensure absolute confidentiality with respect to all information regarding families served by the program.
  • Attend Economic Justice Department staff meetings, monthly all staff meetings, and all training as required.
  • Submit accurate, timely quarterly and other reports as requested by the supervisor, Director, and/or Executive Director.
  • Properly document and submit program expenditures in a timely manner.

Requirements

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Minimum 2 years combined education, training, and experience in early childhood education, early intervention, elementary education, special education, special needs service navigation, peer support, or a related field. Examples of experience, education, and training that fulfill this requirement include, but are not limited to, volunteer or paid work, internships, community-based training and workshops, community college, trade school, university course,s and degrees. Experience, training, and education from inside and outside of the United States are considered equally. Transferable skills and lived experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with low-income families and individuals from diverse backgrounds to support their aspirations
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships with people and communities from diverse races, ethnicities, cultures, abilities, faiths, gender identity and sexuality, and economic backgrounds
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, and complete program objectives in a timely manner
  • Strong project and time management skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and decision-making abilities
  • Experience with trauma-informed care and an understanding of the effects of trauma and how trauma impacts individuals and families
  • Must model appropriate behavior and maintain professional boundaries
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to apply an understanding and appreciation for family dynamics, gender issues, cultural diversity, and individual differences
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the effects of vicarious traumatization and compassion fatigue is beneficial, but not required
  • Knowledge of and the ability to utilize community resources available for supporting families, and experience in navigating institutions, resources, programs, social services, and government agencies
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English (including public speaking)
  • Bicultural proficiency: knowledge of Latinx culturally based world view, adaptive reasoning, and problem-solving practices of Latinx individuals, families, and community living in urban neighborhoods impacted by crime, poverty, and racial inequity. 
  • Commitment to personal and professional development
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Computer-literate. Knowledge of basic software such as Microsoft Office suite, Google Calendar, Docs, etc.  Knowledge of Service Point and Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) software preferred.

ADDITIONAL ADMINISTRATIVE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Successful completion of initial and ongoing employment screens, including but not limited to criminal background and vehicle record as required.
  • Regularly work in the community and in the office as needed.
  • Work in the community, including client homes, schools, churches, parks, community centers, etc.
  • Shared office space and equipment.
  • Office setting requires sitting and typing for extended periods of time.
  • Evening and weekend availability may sometimes be required, and work hours are flexible to accommodate program implementation; long hours during peak periods.
  • May require heavy lifting and moving boxes and other items as needed (twist, bend, reach, carry items up to 20 lbs and think strategically about how to properly move heavy items).
  • Must have a valid Driver License, reliable transportation required and the ability to meet individuals in their own homes, academic settings, and other community settings, including transporting participants as needed.
  • Automobile liability insurance preferred; must be eligible to be an insured driver under Latino Network’s Commercial Auto Liability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Latino Network is a highly engaged work environment with satellite operations and positions performing work both onsite and remotely. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather), and extreme heat (non-weather). This position requires frequent computer use. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
