Job Description - Career Coach - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)


JOB SUMMARY: 

The Career Coach supports individuals in achieving sustainable employment through career planning, job placement, and training guidance , for programs including but not limited to WIOA (Adult/Dislocated Worker), Welfare Transition (WTP), SNAP, Youth, and related initiatives. This role provides personalized coaching, case management, and program compliance to help customers overcome barriers and meet workforce development goals. The position will focus on their designated program as well as other assigned Special Projects or Programs. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate services to customers including the development, implementation and tracking of Career Plans, ITAs (Individualized Training Accounts), assessments, budgets and the tracking of progress by the customers.  
  • Ensure the applicant understands the parameters of the particular program offered.
  • Develop an individualized career goal-oriented plan based on specific objectives and local program standard operating procedures to achieve the ultimate goal of stable, self- sufficient unsubsidized employment.
  • Address all customer identified needs and barriers to gaining employment. Develop appropriate resolution plans and expected outcome achievement dates with customer. Provide referrals as needed through local partnering agencies through CSTB partner referral portal. 
  • Coordinate the customer’s participation in program specific activities. Provide clear guidance and expectations of the program the customer is working in.  
  • Develop Individualized Training Accounts with customers, to include the development of a financial plan and budget matrix as needed.  
  • Provide or coordinate a comprehensive assessment of the customer’s strengths and needs. Review assessment and document customer employment and training suitability by using the results of the assessments provided. 
  • Determine eligibility for funding, such as financial aid programs, PELL grants, student loans, scholarships.
  • Provide consistent employment plan progress checks through a meaningful monthly contact with the customer. Make any appropriate modification to ensure that the objectives are achieved.
  • Input data collection and update all progress in program designated data tracking system 
  • Collaborate with Business Services for job placement and serve as a point of contact for walk-ins. 
  • May attend outreach events offsite as assigned by Coordinator/Leadership.
  • Serve as an initial point of contact for walk-in applicants.
  • Conduct orientation and various workshops for new and existing customers as needed.
  • Maintain and submit program required reports as assigned for designated program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education & Training: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field (or equivalent experience). 
  • Minimum one year in career counseling, social services, or job placement. 
  • Florida Workforce Professional Certification Tier I required. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Valid Florida driver’s license. 
  • Knowledge of workforce programs, employment laws, and community resources. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Florida driver’s license. 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and workforce programs. 
  • Familiarity with online job systems, keyword searches, and spidering tools. 
  • Understanding of federal and state employment laws and One-Stop Career Center programs. 
  • Ability to build effective relationships and work with diverse populations. 
  • Customer-focused approach; act as an advocate for job seekers. 
  • Knowledge of resume standards, company programs, and community resources (housing, food, clothing). 
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, adapt to changing goals, and solve problems effectively. 
  • Skilled in clerical tasks and data entry. 
  • Ability to determine benefit eligibility. 
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Stooping. Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Talking. Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed instructions to other or important spoken workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing. Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion. Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
  • The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.)
