Job Description - Caregiver

When a family is facing one of life's most difficult seasons, the right caregiver can make all the difference.

Home Instead is seeking a calm, compassionate Care Professional to support a hospice client living with advanced dementia and significant physical care needs.

This is meaningful one-on-one care where patience, dignity, and human connection matter just as much as caregiving skills.

This is not a fast-paced assignment. It is a relationship-centered role in a quiet home where emotional awareness, consistency, and hands-on care matter deeply.

The right caregiver understands that success is not measured by how quickly care is completed. Success is measured by helping a client feel safe, respected, and comfortable while giving the family confidence that their loved one is in good hands.

Schedule

  • Evening 8p-10p

  • Seven days per week

What You'll Do

  • Provide hands-on assistance with personal care, toileting, hygiene, dressing, and daily routines

  • Complete all transfers using a Hoyer lift

  • Assist during meals and remain attentive to swallowing and choking concerns

  • Offer companionship, reassurance, and calm redirection when needed

  • Observe and report changes in skin condition, comfort level, or overall well-being

  • Help maintain a peaceful, safe, and respectful environment

What Matters Most in This Home

  • Calm, patient dementia care

  • Gentle communication and emotional reassurance

  • Consistent use of safe transfer techniques

  • Close attention to comfort, dignity, and safety

  • A caregiver who can remain steady even during difficult moments

What Success Looks Like

Successful caregivers in this home:

  • Create a calm, reassuring presence throughout the shift

  • Complete care without making the client feel rushed or overwhelmed

  • Follow safe transfer and repositioning practices consistently

  • Notice small changes and communicate concerns promptly

  • Build trust with the family through reliability and professionalism

  • Help the client remain comfortable, safe, and treated with dignity every day

Physical Expectations

This role requires comfort with extensive hands-on caregiving, including:

  • Full assistance with personal care

  • Hoyer lift transfers throughout the shift

  • Assisting with hygiene and toileting needs

  • Remaining attentive during meals due to swallowing concerns

Caregivers who succeed in this role understand that physical caregiving and emotional presence are equally important.

Who Will Thrive in This Role

  • Naturally calm and patient caregivers

  • Individuals experienced with dementia care, hospice care, or high-acuity clients

  • Caregivers comfortable providing full physical assistance

  • Professionals who notice details and communicate concerns promptly

  • Team members who understand that trust is built through consistency, reliability, and compassion

This Role Is Probably Not a Good Fit If You:

  • Prefer busy shifts with constant activity

  • Become uncomfortable around end-of-life care

  • Feel uneasy providing full personal care

  • Rush through tasks to stay productive

  • Get frustrated when someone asks the same question repeatedly

  • Are not comfortable using a Hoyer lift

  • Prefer independent clients who require minimal assistance

Why Caregivers Choose Home Instead

  • Meaningful one-on-one care

  • Flexible scheduling

  • Supportive office team

  • Ongoing training and development

  • PTO (Paid Time Off) after 1 year

  • 401(k) benefits after 1 year

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old

  • Must pass a background check

  • Must have reliable transportation

  • Hospice, dementia, or Hoyer lift experience preferred

If you're the kind of caregiver who can bring calm into a difficult moment, create safety without creating stress, and provide care with patience and dignity, we'd love to hear from you.

Call or text 435-688-7406

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • 401(k)

  • Flexible schedule

  • Health insurance

  • Mileage reimbursement

  • Paid orientation

  • Paid training

  • Referral program

Work Location: In person
