Caribou Coffee Manager

Job Summary

The Caribou Coffee Shop Manager oversees daily operations, staff management, inventory, and customer service, ensuring profitability and an exceptional customer experience. This role involves training, motivating, and leading a team to deliver high-quality service while meeting financial and operational goals. In addition, the manager actively supports Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by providing exemplary customer service, fostering a positive and engaging team environment, and ensuring that every customer receives a top-tier experience that aligns with Mackenthun’s values.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Management:

• Hire, train, and schedule baristas and other coffee shop staff.
• Provide consistent coaching, feedback, and performance reviews to improve team performance.
• Address employee conflicts or issues and provide constructive feedback for professional growth.
• Create and maintain a positive, motivated work environment that encourages high employee engagement.

Customer Service:

• Ensure exceptional customer service by setting and maintaining high service standards.
• Greet customers, take orders, and process payments accurately and efficiently.
• Resolve customer complaints or concerns promptly, ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Foster relationships with regular customers, remembering their names and preferred orders.
• Maintain an inviting and comfortable atmosphere in the coffee shop.
• Develop and implement strategies to increase foot traffic, sales, and customer retention.
• Foster a positive work environment by promoting employee engagement, offering ongoing training, and recognizing achievements to improve retention and team morale.

Financial Management:

• Monitor and control the department’s budget, ensuring expenses align with sales targets.
• Track sales, inventory, and labor costs to maximize profitability.
• Take action to minimize shrinkage, including training staff on proper product handling and stock management.
• Manage pricing and ensure accurate labeling of products to maintain profitability.
• Review weekly financial reports, including CTO (contribution to overhead), to assess performance and take corrective action.

Health & Safety Compliance:

• Ensure that all health and safety regulations are strictly followed, including food handling, sanitation, and workplace safety.
• Conduct regular cleanliness checks and ensure all equipment is sanitized and in proper working order.
• Oversee compliance with food safety standards, including employee hygiene practices and safe food handling.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of food and beverages to prevent contamination.

Marketing & Promotions:

• Plan and execute in-store promotions, seasonal menu items, and special events to attract customers.
• Work closely with Mackenthun's marketing team to create effective campaigns and drive customer loyalty.
• Develop creative ideas to promote the coffee shop, ensuring the brand image is consistent across all marketing materials.
• Encourage repeat business by maintaining a consistent, high-quality experience for customers.

Equipment Maintenance:

• Oversee the cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of all coffee equipment, including espresso machines, grinders, and ovens.
• Ensure that all equipment is regularly serviced, including monitoring repair needs or upgrades.
• Keep a maintenance log and coordinate repairs as needed to ensure minimal disruption to operations.
• Ensure proper handling and care of POS systems, keeping them functioning smoothly and troubleshooting issues when necessary.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of food safety standards, HACCP certification required.
• Customer service or coffee shop/restaurant management experience preferred.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; proficiency in computer skills, including POS systems and Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work weekends and holidays.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Requires standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Exposure to cleaning chemicals and hot equipment.
