Job Description - Carrier Certification Engineer

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.

At Axon, we’re on a mission to Protect Life. We’re explorers, pursuing society’s most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.

Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you’ll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.

Your Impact

As a Carrier Certification Engineer II at Axon, you will be instrumental in validating and certifying our wireless, WWAN-enabled devices to ensure optimal performance and compliance with Mobile Network Operator (MNO) standards. Your technical expertise will support rigorous in-field testing, device troubleshooting, and close coordination with both internal teams and external stakeholders to meet certification requirements.

By combining hands-on device validation with in-depth network testing and issue resolution, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our connected devices—such as body-worn cameras and in-vehicle systems—operate seamlessly across multiple carrier networks. Your work will directly contribute to delivering reliable, carrier-compliant technology solutions that serve Law Enforcement, Public Safety, and the communities they protect.

What You’ll Do

  • Certify and validate WWAN-enabled devices (4G, 5G, RedCap) against requirements set by global MNOs.

  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of certification requirements across various carriers.

  • Interface and collaborate with Global MNOs to secure product approval, align on use cases, define performance criteria, and ensure certification timelines are met.

  • Develop and execute test plans and use diagnostic tools (QXDM, QCAT, etc.) to assess UE performance and compliance.

  • Conduct thorough in-field network testing—including stress tests and performance benchmarking—on multiple MNO networks.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve device-level issues, collaborating closely with electrical, software, and firmware engineering teams.

  • Capture and analyze L3 logs to diagnose complex problems and isolate root causes.

  • Document test processes and results in detail, providing actionable insights and regular updates to stakeholders.

  • Manage multiple certification projects concurrently, ensuring timely execution and alignment with product timelines.

  • Work cross-functionally with product, engineering, and external partners to meet certification goals and ensure carrier readiness.

  • Stay informed on emerging carrier technologies, tools, and global certification standards to keep Axon devices at the forefront of mobile connectivity.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience

  • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in carrier certification, device validation, or wireless network testing, specifically focused on WWAN-enabled devices (LTE, 5G).

  • Experience working directly with MNOs or in environments requiring compliance with carrier certification processes.

  • Proven track record of conducting in-field device testing, analyzing L3 protocol logs and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve issues.

  • Strong understanding of WWAN technologies, including LTE, 5G, and RedCap.

  • Proficiency in L3 log analysis using tools like QXDM and QCAT; ability to read, interpret, and act on protocol messaging logs.

  • Experience in field validation testing across multiple carrier networks.

  • Familiarity with MNO certification requirements and device validation standards.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills and experience resolving network, device, or protocol-level issues.

  • Effective communicator with strong collaboration skills for cross-functional team interactions.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

  • Willingness to travel as needed for testing and carrier engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project management skills—capable of balancing timelines and resources across multiple initiatives.

  • Experience presenting technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in Spanish (spoken and written) is a plus.
