Job Description - Carrier Sales Representative

General Outline of Responsibilities



  1. Carrier Sourcing & Capacity Management

    1. Source and secure qualified carriers for all assigned loads

    2. Build and maintain a reliable network of carriers by utilizing carrier networks, existing relationships, and load boards to efficiently cover freight

    3. Prioritize speed and accuracy in securing capacity to meet customer requirements

    4. Develop repeat carrier partnerships for consistent shipping regions



  2. Load Execution

    1. Execute approved loads from Account Executives

    2. Ensure all load details are clearly understood prior to contacting carriers

    3. Cover loads in a timely manner to meet customer deadlines and expectations

    4. Provide complete and accurate carrier details to Tracking & Trace / Operations teams after booking

    5. Ensure all load information is properly documented in internal systems



  3. Carrier Qualification & Compliance

    1. Verify carrier qualifications, including:

      1. Insurance compliance

      2. Safety ratings







  • Operating authority and eligibility



  1. Complete carrier setup and onboarding as needed

  2. Ensure all carriers meet company and customer standards



  1. Negotiation & Market Awareness

    1. Negotiate competitive rates with carriers to maximize profitability

    2. Balance cost control with service quality and reliability

    3. Stay informed on market trends, lane pricing, and capacity conditions

    4. Communicate market conditions and rate pressures to Account Executives

    5. Provide feedback to the team on market shifts impacting pricing or coverage



  2. Communication & Collaboration

    1. Work closely with Account Executives to align on load priorities and customer expectations

    2. Communicate any concerns related to pricing, load details, or feasibility prior to booking

    3. Collaborate with pod members to maintain load visibility and status updates

    4. Maintain professionalism and strong communication with carriers and internal teams



  3. Risk Management & Problem Solving

    1. Set clear expectations with carriers regarding pickup, delivery, and communication requirements

    2. Identify potential service risks such as capacity constraints, delays, or unreliable carriers

    3. Escalate issues to the Account Executive when customer impact is likely

    4. Assist in developing solutions to keep loads on track and minimize disruptions
