Job Description - Cash Application Specialist


Roetzel & Andress LPA, a multi-state law firm with an administrative center in Fairlawn, Ohio, has an immediate opening for a full-time Accounting Assistant to support the Finance Department. This is an in office position to be worked in our Fairlawn office. 

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Apply incoming payments (checks, ACH, wire transfers, credit cards) to client accounts and invoices in accordance with firm policies and procedures.
  • Reconcile daily cash receipts and investigate discrepancies in payment applications.
  • Coordinate with the billing department to resolve unapplied or misapplied payments and ensure proper account adjustments.
  • Communicate with clients, attorneys and team members regarding payment details, remittance information, and account status as needed.
  • Processing of one-time credit cards mailed by clients and those emailed to accounts receivable
  • Transmittal of checks to bank
  • Process client account adjustments as needed
  • Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of cash application workflows.

Education and Experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Outlook and Excel
  • 2+ years of experience in cash application, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment
  • Strong knowledge of legal accounting software (3E, Aderant or similiar)
  • Proficient in data entry and time management
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
The candidate must also pass a credit and background check as a condition for employment.
