Cashier Clerk/Production

DEPARTMENT:  Family Store      

REPORTS TO:   Family Store Manager       

SUPERVISES:   Volunteers      

STATUS:  Non-Exempt/Part-Time     

SCHEDULE:  up to 29 hours weekly (seasonal as needed up to 40 hours) 

FUNCTION:  To support the ongoing mission of The Salvation Army by maintaining standards and facilitating sales and donations at the Portsmouth Corps Family Store

-Perform basic math functions to collect payments and make change  

-Supervise family store volunteers in absence of store manager 

-Maintain accurate sales and customer records according to policy 

-Participate in operation of the cash register, maintenance and sales recording. 

-Uphold pricing and store policy set by store manager. 

-Participate in staff training as needed. 

-Comply with all applicable laws and regulations for thrift store operation. 

-Assist with intake, sorting, and pricing. 

-Open and/or close store as scheduled. 

-Memorize product locations throughout the store and be able to direct customers or make suggestions   

-Collect payments and bag purchases for customers  

-Maintain accurate cash drawer  

-Take a tally of the funds in the cash register when  during a shift and produce transaction reports  

-Keep the checkout area clean and orderly  

-Appropriately represent The Salvation Army’s spiritual ministry and social mission in every circumstance, treating customers and clients alike with dignity and respect. 

-Perform all duties in compliance with Salvation Army policies and regulations. 

-Perform other duties as needed and/or directed by the Officer in charge. 

1. High School Diploma or GED 
2. Related experience preferred but not necessary 
3. Good phone etiquette 
4. Excellent verbal communication skills 
5. Punctual 
6. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments. 
7. Able to multi-task 
8. Professional appearance 
9. Able to work collectively with the administrative team associates.
