Job Description - Cat Assistance Program Intake Specialist

We are actively seeking an Intake Specialist who will coordinate the assessment and intake of felines entering the SPCA adoption program from the public via the Cat Assistance Program(CAP). Provides excellent customer service through phone, email, and in person during all interactions with the public, including conversations about found colony cats, coordinating CAP foster enrollments, and gathering and processing of paperwork. Acts as a foster coordinator for cats with CAP foster enrollment, scheduling appointments and maintaining open communication with constituents fostering. Works directly with the medical team to help ensure timely exams, vaccines, and surgery scheduling. Communicates efficiently with other operations teams to ensure all cats in care have appropriate housing needs met. Position requires varied shifts, some weekends & holidays, and inclement weather hours.

Qualification Requirements:


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • High proficiency with data entry and basic computer programs

  • High degree of professionalism and customer service

  • Passion for the mission and core values of the SPCA of Wake County

  • Able to meet physical requirements of the job as described

  • Must have positive attitude and collaborative team-oriented spirit

  • Must be high energy, self starting and able to work with little supervision

Essential Functions: 



  • Interacts with the public via phone, email, and in person 

  • Helps support a positive work environment for staff and volunteers

  • Helps ensure proper sanitation of animal housing areas and humane and 
    proper handling of all animals

  •  Assists with all areas of pet intake including gathering & processing 
    information, data entry of pet medical records, and handling for medical 
    processing

  •  Helps maintain the efficient flow of animals into the SPCA’s adoption program

  • Assists with cleaning of designated work areas

  • Helps ensure the safety of all employees, visitors and volunteers

  • Treats all pets & people humanely and promotes an environment of kindness
